Re: Ricky Dyson Signs A 1 Year Contract

At worst he adds some depth at a very cheap price, at best knights may be able to get him to reach his full potential who knows?

He's coached him for three years and hasn't been able to get him to play back to back good games at Bendigo.

has this got a source?
Also Longy has stated that Cole has been delisted is this official?

He has been.

Re: Ricky Dyson Signs A 1 Year Contract

What will really piss me off is if Pev gets delisted in his place. A ball getter retired for a ballerina

Pev should get delisted, no point in retaining him when he is not part of the next premiership window

Re: Ricky Dyson Signs A 1 Year Contract

Ricky Dyson has signed a 1 year contract to stay at Essendon for another year.

Still to sign or be offered a new contract;
Bradley, Kepler
Cole, Richard
Johnson, Mark
Peverill, Damien

With Hird, Campo, Bolton and Heff retired. Thats 4 out.
With Rama and Hocking being elavated. Thats 2 in.

That leaves 2 spots free on the list at this present time.
Surely only 1 or 2 of the list above at the very most will be at Essendon next season.

Whilst this may be true about Dyson, I'll wait for official confirmation from essendonfc.com.au

If it is true, what a flamin disgrace. What has Dyson done this year? Actually make that the last 2 years????
He has had a fair crack at it, time to say good-bye.

I was hoping Cole, Peverill and Dyson would go. Looks like Peverill might survive which will irk me even more.

I reckon Knights will wait until this week is over, before he offers Dyson a new contract.
Well I'm hoping he can still get traded.

Re: Ricky Dyson Signs A 1 Year Contract

that's good; ricky reminds me of a very young nick dal santo. he has great leg speed and acceleration, he showed glimpses of that even this year; he has silky skills, a good football brain. he only needs to work on his endurance, and given a new coach (new opportunities, new motivation and messages) i think he's ready to blossom. i think we all know the majority of dyson, monfries, bradley, laycock, lonergan, nash, winderlich and neagle (bar injuries) would have made an impact playing at nearly any other club already; sheedy, as great as he was, simply lost his edge and his connection with the younger players. most of those players, if not all, will step up a level next year under new coaches. and you can quote me on that. ;)

hehehehe. your funny

Re: Ricky Dyson Signs A 1 Year Contract

that means peverill is gone.
that is really bad news imo
cuz he wants 6 spots free in the list..
a shame that is

Are u serious?.

Key word being glimpses, not up to AFL level. Yet to see him perform at a consistent level. Was woeful this year when given a chance.

given a new coach (new opportunities, new motivation and messages) i think he's ready to blossom.
As Longy said Knights had him for 3 years at bendigo, if he couldn't get the best out of him at VFL level, doubt he can at AFL level.

Not really.

Dyson has played 38 of a possible 66 AFL matches in the past 3 years. He's been anything but permanent with Matthew Knights at VFL level.

His VFL form is unfairly criticised at times as well. Sure, he had a shocker against North Ballarat, but aside form that, it was actually pretty decent and earnt him call-ups to the seniors.

He's worth the gamble for a year, I can't see us finding a kid late in this year's draft with the talent of Dyson.

Re: Ricky Dyson Signs A 1 Year Contract

That premiership window is so faraway IMO THAT OVER HALF THE SIDE WOULD BE GONE BY THEN.

Not really, I am talking 3-5 yrs down the track. We need to mould our midfield for a tilt at the premiership in 2011-2013, so it is time to get rid of the 30 yr old midfielders, enough is enough!

Peverill has to go. Sick of him penalising himself and the team with his inability to hit a moving or standing target by foot.

Earnt call ups?

Didn't we have injuries?

He got a lot of games by default.
He got a lot of games after playing one good game.

He never got a game by playing 4-5 strong VFL games.
Not once.

Re: Ricky Dyson Signs A 1 Year Contract

Wrapped he got another crack. Spent far to much time on the bench as far as I was concerned with sheedy.

Re: Ricky Dyson Signs A 1 Year Contract

I remember hearing during the week that if Dyson didn't get traded, then Knights will offer him a 1 year contract..... :o

I'm still hopefull of dyson getting traded by 2pm tomorrow.

He was lucky to be on the bench, happy it is only a 1 yr deal!

I'd argue that he did at the start of the season.

He may not have strung 4-5 games together, but the selectors had little choice but to play him against Carlton. He was very good in the VFL in the lead up to that.

I do find myself trying to find a needle in a hay stack with this argument, but I don't believe he's been as catastrophic for Bendigo as he's being made out to have been.

And why is it that he has played only 38 of a possible 66 AFL matches.

Dyson failed to grab his opportunities. Showed nothing this year, when given a game in front of others who actually had good form for Bendigo.

Waste of space.

Well he obviously sees something in him, Knights played ricky in a different role than sheeds and he played some good games under him as a goal kicking midfielder.

New coach and a new lease on life, he wouldnt be the first fringe player to thrive under a different boss.

Why? Mainly because they were his 2nd, 3rd and 4th seasons of AFL. You'd find a lot of guys far more talented than Dyson that played less games than that in that time period. Jay Nash has only played 20.

But that stat was only used to show that Matthew Knights hasn't really had that much opportunity to get the best out of him.

If he sees something in him, he'd offer him a two year deal.

Looks to me they're taking a punt on him because they don't rate the bottom end of the draft.
