Ricky Nixon’s Club 10 rated

the problem is people seem to think he was a stay at home forward and only look at goals. When in actual fact he was the prototype type modern day footballer.

you could argue that about numbers 9 & 10.

Richo was the roaming forward with a big tank, Stewie Loewe was the prototype 2nd ruckman / clunk one up forward late in his career.

tbf Loewe wasnt in the same class as Lyon

So just to confirm, Lyon a 3× AA, Victorian state of origin captain, multiple bnf winner in top 6 teams, team of the century and HOF player and one of less than three players who have ever kicked 10+goals in a VFL/AFL final is an average player?

Loewe wasn’t as classy as Lyon, but in a similar class. 2 AA, best contested mark in the league for much of his career. Lyon’s peak was def better but Loewe’s longevity was incredible

Leone was an absolute beast. One of the greatest contested marks you would ever see.

No idea why Lyon was ever in it, his ability and results were nowhere near those other blokes.

1989-1992 - Averaged 19.02 disposals, 5.41 marks and 1.25 goals per game, playing all over the ground, All-Australian 1993, Club B&F 1990 Club captain 1991-1993
1994 - 24 games, 151 marks, 79 goals (including 10 goals in a final), All-Australian, Club B&F, Club leading goalkicker, Club captain, Victorian captain, 10 Brownlow votes
1995 - 20 games, 109 marks, 77 goals, All-Australian, Club B&F, Club leading goalkicker, Club captain, 9 Brownlow votes

Played just 34 games from 1996-1999 before retiring at age 32. Missed a lot of footy in what should have been some prime years, which skews opinions considerably. He was a high-quality big-bodied swingman (only really became a permanent key forward in 1994-1995) and a top leader for a long time before that, though.

Loewe had some statistically monster years (7 different seasons of 180+ marks, another 5 seasons of 140+ marks, 7 seasons of 40+ goals, 6 seasons of 100+ hitouts too, so wasn't always spending time as a forward), had five seasons of double-figure Brownlow votes (pretty unusual for a key position player), and his longevity and workrate for a bloke his size (194cm, 108kg) was incredible (321 games over 17 years).

Yeah he was

Yeah he was incredibly consistent and I can’t think of another rig as big as as his with such longevity. Easy to focus on his limitations (goal kicking) and forget what a rare player he was

In a year the Saints didn't play finals, he kicked 90 goals.
