I've had quite a few over the last 20 years or so ranging from a yankee big White Rider through to my current Cox rider. One big tip, don't go near anything with a pressed metal deck, they **** up all the time if you do any sort of hard work with them. Insist on a welded fabricated deck and you'll have far less problems...Greenfields are OK but tend to have rear axle problems when they get a bit of age on them. Most John Deere and Husquys have pressed metal decks unless you get up into their premium models.

Cox would be my choice unless you want to get up into the commercial models like Hustler etc, therein lies the clincher, all commercial Riders have FABRICATED DECKS

What if you wanted to clear the patch completely?

I'm not sure he wants to totally Nuke it. Maybe he does.
triad Select is the gear most gilf courses use for killing broad leaf weeds without nuking the grass too.

Got a Cub Cadet up here on the Sunny Coast. Need to cut the lawn every 10 days or so, it grows so fast in the summer up here. She goes well, no problems with it at all.

John deer trumps all…
Not what Commercial lawnmower blokes will tell you unless you're talking their commercial mowers with FABRICATED decks.

Edit : The pressed metal decks get metal fatigue and crack and are very hard to weld...a new pressed metal deck for a John Deere garden variety Rider will set you back north of $2,400 plus fitting.

When we were kids and up on our grandparents' farm near Kadina, our grandpa would set us up on his ride on mower (turn blades off) and hitch a trailer to the back of it - he then gave us a giant magnet and one of us would be in the trailer with said magnet dragging behind the while the other drives around - magnet would pick up all the bits of metal around the farm property and he gets us to clean it all up while we are having the best time "driving"

You don't think they are too noisy in the morning?
