West Coast have the option of redrafting Rioli via the pre season draft. After all, I have heard from all and sundry that the reason for his departure wasn't money as, monetarily, the West Coast deal was pretty similar right?

Is there a possibility we waste a PSD pick on Junior with the knowledge he could say no and go back to the Tiwi Islands for a year? I can't see how this would work in Junior's favour if that happens.

No. If he goes to the PSD he will most likely put the contract conditions that Port have offered on himself. Meaning we would need to pay roughly 500k x 4. Not sure about the clauses but would assume they couldnt be incorporated. If we arent going to do that now we wont do it later plus burn a PSD pick.



Plus North get him with pick 1 anyway.

Cheers. I thought it might have been a case of negotiating with who you've drafted, not drafting who you negotiate with.

Yeah when does it ever happen where when a player goes to the preseason draft he doesn’t get to his wanted destination, the only one I remember is nick stevens, the pre season draft threat is garbage the player basically always gets the club he wants to go too.

If we want to talk about legalities, let's start with Junior breaking the law several times yet still being supported by WCE.
Then he wants to leave at his first opportunity.

It would be worth it to force their hand. If they tampered with it, that would be the end of the pre-season draft.

As it stands, the draft is becoming more and more compromised with FA compo and academy bids. It feels like it will need an overhaul in the next ten years to clean it up.

I would think that’s very much on the cards.
It’s now known, in the industry, that we are genuine in our intent to split the pick if the deal stacks up.
Other Clubs would be doing their own sums and calculations accordingly.

The current “ skeletal “ trade proposal with us NM and Port needs some more meat attached to it and the onus is now on Port to do so and provide the meat.

Totally unrealistic of Port to think that they can pull this off without sacrificing a decent player, because at it stands at the moment they just don’t have adequate draft capital to pull the deal off, they are close but they need to manufacture the missing pieces, otherwise the deal falls over.

I guess time will tell. The issue he had with the Hawks didn't appear to be with Clarkson.
