Rioli urine test tampered

Still don't understand how a footballer can be banned for smoking weed.

If it isn't steroids, growth hormone or peptides who gives a flying fu**.

It's banned in sports where you wouldn't think it would make sense to ban it because it's too hard to create individual lists for individual sports.

West Coast chief executive Trevor Nisbett is optimistic Willie Rioli will play for the club again and has vowed to support the 2018 premiership forward until the end of his drug ban saga.
And the Eagles will ask the AFL to consider stepping away from the World Anti-Doping code because of the treatment of Rioli in the 14 months since he was provisionally suspended for two doping infractions.

One infraction was for tampering with a urine sample in August last year and the other weeks later for testing positive to marijuana.

yeah, nah sorry Trev, I agree, it would appear this has taken way to long, we've seen what the AFL would do if left to police itself....no thanks.

The only reasons the AFL (and likely a few other sports) is with ASADA in the first place is because they get a shitload of subsidies from the government.

There should be a finding made public in the next two weeks - likely by the end of next week.

Kane Cornes saying its taking too long.

He is getting 2 years minimum. Which is Sept 2021. Should get 4 years.

Not sure what the rush is. He isnt playing any time soon. Nor even training.

In silly Willie’s case it doesn’t matter, but if it were a situation where the athlete may be found innocent 2 years would be pretty ridiculous.

There‘s also the other scenario where an athlete is still able to compete with proceedings against them.
Imagine an athlete is allowed to compete for a couple of years while ASADA are bumbling around only to be found guilty later on.

Not even called ASADA anymore?

If you know anything about the public service, and I assume that they are, you will know that there will be good people, under-resourced and underpaid doing their best through mountains of regulations, torrents of ignorant criticism, and political masters swaying wildly from the gentlest of breezes.

I think we all can empathise with individuals caught up in the injustice inherent in the system (thanks Monty Python).

But "bumbling around" is almost certainly not what they're doing. More likely they're just trying to ensure a fair, and legal process for all parties.

How do you know its ASADA ?

Doesnt the AFL do the kangaroo court?

Kim Hagdorn saying decision is within the next 48 hours, and that they are expecting 2 years as the outcome so Rioli will be back playing this year.

It's Hagdorn though, so take anything he says with a grain of salt.

bit surprised by this tbh.
thought they’d want to make a high profile example showing no tolerance to tampering, particularly given he turned in a match day positive.

It was two different incidents though the tampering at the match day positive.

Will await details, but for all we know he could have received 2 years for both and they are being served concurrently.

What a debacle - got off very lightly considering the severity of the two tampering offenses and the single positive result.

The tampering and the positive were always going to be concurrently served, so only explanation I can think of is that the second tampering also got done concurrently.

This just highlights how dumb Rioli is, and how flawed the system is also.

Interesting that the AFL waited until all avenues of appeal by Sports Integrity Australia and WADA had expired before the penalty was handed out by them. Makes you wonder if they had announced the same penalty prior to the expiration date, would Sports Integrity Australia or WADA have appealed.

Probably learned their lesson from the Essendon fiasco when they cleared them in house only for WADA to then come over the top (ooga booga) and appeal it

i get that they were always going to be served concurrently.
it’s more that he’s got the same sentence for intentionally ******* up (twice) that others have gotten for inadvertently ******* up
