I wonder how much money the Dorba's who invented it got for it?
I wonder how much money it cost the AFL? but with its past history being opaque i doubt will ever know the truth

Good, waste of time, money and talent. Imagine the uproar if Danger, Dusty or Fyfe did a ACL playing a gimmick game.

If the really AFL wants to take AFLW seriously then they should be putting the preseason money to them instead

Would be better to lengthen the afl season a little and forget this rubbish.
The longer the season goes the greater the fixture inequalities become.

The should make the AFL season shorter so every team players each-other once. As a bonus, that leaves plenty of room for both AFL-w and AFL-x

The moment that AFLX jumped the shark

Yeah, thought about that after the fact, surely it would be good opportunity to host games elsewhere.
We would still have to play on Cricket ovals somewhere and with the big 5 out of the question a majority of Suburban grounds wouldn't have the capacity, even if we could access them which is highly unlikely.

Hopefully the next time the work experience kid comes up with an idea, the AFL say no.
How did the AFL thought this was a good idea.

Good riddance to bad rubbish

The point of the AFLX format was to offer an alternative to social touch rugby which is quite a large participation sport. The pre-season AFLX comp using AFL players was merely a way of promoting the format.

It seems like it was a worthy idea, but maybe poorly executed?

Or maybe an experiment that didn’t work out? I don’t know the participation rates of social AFLX - but could imagine that they are very low.

Can’t knock the AFL for trying.

Nah, They already have AFL 9's which does exactly what you are saying AFLX was suppose to do.

In my opinion, AFLX was just a copy of the success of T20 cricket in Australia. When it was blasted the first year, they doubled down and even copied the style, colours and feel of the competition thinking that was the problem. A game of footy is still shorter than a T20 game Gil, why do we need a shorter form?

They are clueless. The same ivory tower clowns think China is going to work too just because it's worked for primary industries and is big in the media.

China might work you dont need a massive % of a billion to make it profitable
You need to market it differently though, you need celebrity endorsement maybe to break in like lavender teddys
AFLX is really just touch park footy for anywhere that has a soccer rugby pitch.
It might have worked as AFLXW as suggested or as a Veterans game format or State of Origin, unfortunately not so well as a tag team wrestling format
