Actor Colin McEwan dies

Comedian and actor Colin McEwan has died after a battle with cancer.

McEwan, 64, lapsed into a coma on Sunday and died in the Gold Coast Hospital at 7.30 last night, his wife Rae McEwan said.

McEwan had a radio, stage and television career spanning more than 40 years.

But he was best known for his roles in TV's Naked Vicar Show and Kingswood Country and as a long-time radio announcer on 3AK in Melbourne.

On television, McEwan appeared regularly on the variety program In Melbourne Tonight.

He also had straight roles in a string of TV series including Cop Shop, and mini-series such as the Seven network's Brass Monkeys and Ten's Day of the Roses.

He was among TV pioneers, playing Gasper Goblin in the popular national 1960s children's program Magic Circle Club, and Miser Meanie in Adventure Island.

McEwan is survived by his wife Rae and his 32-year-old son David.

His funeral will be held on September 5 at the Allambie Gardens crematorium on the Gold Coast.

Yeah, that's her.

I think she's also in the new Aussie film Look Both Ways.

That's actually the set i have. It's obviously being massively discounted by the distributor.

It's a show that would be great to see in repeats on Foxtel.

It did get a run on Foxtel a fair while back - I think it was on the Comedy Channel. It was great to see the show again.

I might buy the DVD box set now I know of its existence.

And, showing my age even further, I remember Adventure Island and Miser Meanie.

One of Australia's most classic actors from one of Australia's most classic television shows, Kingswood Country.
