FWIW. I can't help but feel it's a perfect storm of personal issues, the media and fan grilling of Linkin Parks latest album (throwing shit at gigs and telling Chester via social media to kill himself for changing LP's style so much), and Chester's relationship with Chris Cornell (he was godfather to Chris' children, sang at his eulogy and has passed on Chris' birthday).

RIP Chester. I'm shattered.

Surely this can't be true. I'm so f**king torn right now.

Their music was my everything and kept me going in even the hard times and while i still am their music continues to do so and now their lead singer is gone.

No wonder their recent album sounded so much more different to their recent albums.

My last Leicester City FC video i made for YouTube was with the Linkin Park song - one more light.

Im stunned. Rattled.

The one more light album almost tells a story that for whatever reason wasn't recognizable before this had happened.

I just thought a few of the songs were good for the soul and enjoyed listening to it despite itc not sounding very much like the previous albums.

Moments like this you realise just how powerful music can be.

RIP mate. A huge loss to a lot of us.

Absolutely gut wrenching to say the least! Casual Friday at work today, they theme it by colours, so today was black. I layed out my Linkin Park band shirt last night to wear today. Can't believe it though. I grew up a crazy LP fan, still listen to them every single day. Was always hoping they'd tour AUS soon and i could take my 2 year old to see them (obviously stand at the back haha), as when he was born i bought a "Linkin Park Lullaby Album". I really hope this has nothing to do with the backlash to One More Light. I was pretty critical of the album, but privately. They were so proud of it, and copped an avalanche of abuse. They even released the video for "talking to myself" like 4-5 hours ago, then 2 hours later he's gone!

Indeed sad. I was in high school in the early 00s, so Hybrid Theory and Meteora were naturally everywhere, lot of my friends were big fans. Even my dad still loves them (and as someone not partial to rap, the Chester vocals were certainly the main attraction for him).

Numb(/Encore) and In the End are the sort of standards any non-fan can always get behind, but they did have many decent singles, even if I never delved further into the albums. For any pre-teen, the latter was one of the songs of the 2001/02 summer.

From memory, Hybrid Theory was the biggest stateside seller in 2001.

RIP

Horrific news, particularly for his 6 children.

I haven't listened to them in years, but Hybrid Theory and Meteora were influential gateways as a kid to much of the music that I enjoy today. Will definitely be jamming those two records over the next few days.

Cranked out Hybrid Theory on the way to Adelaide this morning. Didnt like the path they took but, this is terrible news. So young, so sad.

Playing through all their music right now, cant believe we wont hear him sing songs in the future. A part of me believes its the masses of people hating on him and the band for the latest album. The internet is just dangerous with the amount of influence people can have with it.

Can't 'like' because of the tragedy but share the sentiment that Chester is a sad loss, to his family first and foremost, then to the music world.

This is hitting me harder than I thought it would. Have been a huge Chester fan for years

I don't think i've ever been so hit by a celeb death in all honesty, have been a bit in shock all day. I've spent the last 14 years hearing this guy's voice nearly every day through walkmans, car stereos, ipods and now iphones (and even live). Weird feeling knowing he's gone now. Listened religiously to all of their albums. Wonder what will happen with Mike and the rest of the lads. Hope they stay together and continue on in some form

It sounds real cheesy but when I was growing up I always felt the songs got me. It was the first artist who I felt I could relate to their lyrics. I remember the first time I heard In The End on Video Hits. I remember watching mashup videos of LP and Dragon Ball Z on youtube all day. I remember getting my first mp3 player and all I could fit was 28-32 songs. All it had was Linkin Park & Grey Daze. I remember attempting to emulate Chester's voice in the bathroom when no one else was home.

I really hope his family is doing well after this. From what I gather him & Chris Cornell were extremely close, his family must be pretty torn up about now

So sad. Linking Park were THE band of my adolescence. His voice was amazing, just two days ago I was watching his duet with Paul McCartney at the Grammy's on YouTube.

May he RIP. Didn't know he had 6 children, which makes it even more tragic.

Stunned. Shocked. Guys, it's okay to talk. Thank you for the music and the memories and RIP Chester.

Chris was a godfather of at least one of Chester's kids (or visa versa)
Also don't think it's coincidence this occurred on Cornell's birthday

I haven't listened to these guys much recently but Hybrid Theory and Meteora were the soundtrack of my later primary school and early high school years. Linkin Park were the gateway that lead to SOAD, Slipknot and eventually a whole genre of metal music I still listen to today.

I'm so glad I got to see Chester belt out the classics at Soundwave in Melbourne about 4 years ago. His voice is great but it's not until you hear it live that you can fully appreciate it. So raw and powerful.

I won't pretend to understand the reasons why he took his life but if perturbed fans sending toxic messages contributed it breaks my heart. The internet empowers people to voice opinions with an audacity they otherwise wouldn't have...and some people often deliver these messages with the kind of hate and vitriol they never would in a face to face situation.

41 is far too young. I still can't quite believe it's true.

RIP Chester, you'll be missed.
