Flicking between XO and Either/Or...really enjoy him but haven't ventured any further than those two, which are his best?

Honestly, every one of his albums is a masterpiece in it's own right. But out of the ones you haven't mentioned, Roman Candle is incredible. Definitely give that a try! But eventually, give all his albums a listen. You won't regret it!

Yeah as said above all his albums are seriously awesome.
Either/Or is my personal favourite... but his self titled album, Roman Candle, Figure Eight and From a Basement on a Hill all have some seriously awesome tracks, and all manage to be gripping lyrically while staying melodically pleasing.

Magic on all his albums. New Moon as a compilation is pretty stunning as well. Might come up with my top 20 Elliott Smith songs later on. It's going to be very hard.

My top 30 is a bit all over the shop at the minute. I'll go with the 10 which was easier to do.
1. Tomorrow Tomorrow - Guitar is epic. Just an epic song really.
2. Satellite -Love the lyrics without necessarily deciphering the complete meaning. The guitar as well is subtly beautiful.
3. High Times - Maybe my favourite lyrics from him. Love the story, the build up and the crescendo like delivery. "I'm so sick and tired tryin to change your mind when it's so easy to disconnect mine"
4. Roman Candle: Again guitar and song is poignant, quite a complex one to learn on guitar, the lyrics are powerful and mean something to him. "I want to hurt him"
5. Between the Bars - Just a great sweet song. Quite well known and deservedly so. The song that probably got me into Elliott Smith
6. The White Lady Love You More - Melancholy and metaphor. Win!
7. No Confidence Man - Very sad tragic song
8. Everything Reminds Me of Her - Similarly sad but less tragic. Nostalgic when I listen to it.
9. Independence Day - Love the guitar intro as much as the song itself! "You only live a day but it's brilliant anyway"
10 A Passing Feeling - Rate the lyrical sequence. Still I send all the time, my request for relief, down the dead powerlines, though i'm beyond belief in the help I require just to exist at all, took a long time to stand just an hour to fall"

HM: Georgia Georgia, Oh Well Okay, Condor Ave, No Name No 4, Southern Belle, No Name No 3 and Waltz 1.
