I rated him higher than Kevin.
Everyone does. Geoff played 202 games for the Hawks including 2 premierships, Kevin only played 31 with the Hawks. Interesting that all 3 Ablett brothers ended their VFL/AFL careers elsewhere. Geoff went to Richmond (83,84), then St.Kilda (85). Gary to Geelong, and Kevin to Richmond (84) and Geelong (85).

Geoff had a falling out with Allan Jeans I believe

I think PN might have been pretending that he thought 'overshadowed by his younger brother' was a reference to Kevin, not Gary.

Jeans hated the Ablett family in general.

RIP Geoff Ablett

KOLOKOTRONIS
Can't talk about the other 2 Abletts, but I used to work with one of their cousins back in the early 80s. He used to tell me all about Gary, how he'd have a chance of becoming the greatest player of all time if he could stay out of prison. I imagine if the entire family were tarred with the same brush, then that would cause problems between them and Police Serjeant Allan Jeans.

Les, the oldest brother was the best of all of them apparently, but had a job.

He wasn't exactly an honourable person post he's playing career with he's dodgy dealings on the council down in Casey which tarnished he's reputation somewhat but as a player a very solid contributor in a great era for the club.

To be fair he was not found guilty of these alleged charges. Had dealings with him and found him a very decent person to deal with

That doesn't mean it wasn't going on just that they had not enough evidence to find him guilty from memory.
And you are also innocent till proven otherwise. Geoff had alot of help over the years by people like Ian Dicker and Anne Marie Pellizzer (hawthorn board member) quality people that tells you something.

Good fun memories, I remember him tearing down the wing at Windy Hill with Gary Foulds chasing him, the strain on Foulds' face was beautiful. Geoff is looking pristine running like the wind, Foulds looks like he's about to blow a gasket. Hilarious.

He was also a a prodigious kick. It was fantastic when he gained possession on the wing. If he got the break on the opposition ...he'd get clear, they couldn't catch him and then you knew he was going to kick it deep into Hawthorn's forward line or have some sort of chance of putting it through.

Hope to see the players wearing the black arm bands tonight. 200 games, 2 premierships = a stellar career in the brown and gold. RIP to one of our 1970s champs
They are.

Why would you ‘imagine the entire family were tarred with the same brush’

That is a shit comment
