News RIP Neil Kerley

My favourite commentary moment with Kerls was when they used those staple guns to treat head wounds to stop the bleeding from head knocks quickly. The idea was stitches took too long, so you could use a medical staple gun and bang in some stitches. Neil decided to demonstrate how they worked by putting a couple of metal staples in his finger during a live cross on the boundary. Didn't bat an eyelid, but did acknowledge it was painful when he was asked by the commentary team.

I was also lucky enough to meet Neil at Walkers Flat. We were picking up a load of turf from a farm and Neil was chatting to the owner. Came over and introduced himself like we wouldn't know who he was. Great guy and had a good chat.

RIP Kerls. Will always remember those media commentary on TV and radio. Loved his dry witty humour, but also loved the passion in his voice whenever he spoke footy. A definite legend of the game, on- and off-field!
