RIP Phil Walsh

Too often we use the word tragedy in a flippant manner to describe a loss or an injury. Now this right here is a tragedy.

RIP Phil Walsh, sincerest condolences to his family friends and the Adelaide Football Club. What a heart breaking situation for all involved.

What... I... what...

Being highly sleep deprived I still don't know if this is real.

Obviously football is not the main concern here, but I wonder what happens with this weekends games? Do the Crows play out the season?

Could not think of a worst way to die. In the last few seconds of your life the last thing to be thinking I failed my son. Personally that would break my heart before dying from any wounds.

How do you know he failed him? plenty of people have grown up to be absolute muppets but had perfect upbringings love, discipline, guidance etc.

More then likely not he was a on a drug induced psychotic episode or a psycho from taken too much ice and shit, over time amphetamines make monsters of even the best of people.

Probably best to leave that sort of speculation until we have more info

Absolutely speechless.

Any loss of innocent life is a tragedy, but to be murdered by your own son is just beyond words.

RIP Walshy

Don't think there will be games this weekend. Maybe push back finals and reschedule rest of round?

I doubt it. Maybe this will be that extra motivator for the Crows...

This will unfortunate event will devastate the crows in the short term. The afl must postpone their game. Can't expect this team, with many young boys, to play with this on the heads.

Unbelievable.

It's hard to believe. I never know what to say at these times. Sympathy to the family & friends and all his footy and club associates. It is going to be tough at Adelaide for a while.

That's what gets me the most. A stranger, an enemy, someone you hate or some junkie you can rationalise. But the person you were responsible for creating and were raised by is shocking. Shocking.

Who knows... This is unprecedented stuff.

But, Walsh was a competitive man, wouldn't he want the game to go ahead?

Yet saying a man who was stabbed to death by his son failed him is ok?

Speaking ill of the dead (as that is what is being done by that comment) is in my mind is poor form as he is not around to defend himself.

a lot wont know of his short career with us - i probably saw every one of his games in 83 - blindingly good first year player.
KB's 400th was his shining light - racing down the members wing time after time - we had found our champion going forward.
then sadly he left in the richmond trade war. one brilliant year.

RIP

Shattering, stunning, just unprecedented in AFL/VFL terms, really hard to comprehend what has happened.

Thoughts go out to everyone who knew him, and that would be a lot of people considering how many clubs he was involved with throughout his playing and coaching career.

RIP Phil Walsh.

Hey Loki, I seem to recall Walsh himself saying he felt like he'd let his family down by working too hard.

i think he wore number 41 or something like that he was recruited from Hamilton he would have been a 200 game player at collingwood if we didnt have that recruiting war with richmond

Jesus all I was saying was its better not to speculate without actual info, that means no judgement towards Phil Walsh or his son

Can't imagine that the Adelaide game would go ahead this weekend, but that will be up to the Adelaide players to decide after discussions this morning. If the game doesn't go ahead they could postpone the game or split the points if the other side agrees. All other games I imagine will go ahead as normal. Expecting the Collingwood players tonight to be wearing black armbands.
