RIP Roland S Howard

A truly tragic loss.

He was a gifted songwriter and guitarist; his legacy as a guitar player can be heard in a myriad of bands such as Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr.

I was at a NYE gig last night and a couple of tough men from the Melbourne/Australian music scene were all choked up when talking about Rowland. It's a tragic loss.

His last release Pop Crimes which was put out in October is my album of the year. It's a beautiful, powerful album; I suggest you get your hands on a copy.

Vale Rowland.

PS - his name was Rowland not Roland, mods may like to correct that.

THE BIRTHDAY PARTY Pleasure Heads Must Burn (ABC)
THESE IMMORTAL SOULS Marry Me (Festival)

I won't miss it mate, and I normally don't buy records on an internet recommendation, but I am going to purchase this album on the back of your wrap.

Given what I know of your musical tastes Wally you'll love it. There isn't a wasted word or note on the album - it's a standout. I'm sure it will be hailed as a classic album in years to come.

I'll be picking it up myself BS. Cheers for the info.

Sad news. The Birthday Party were a terrific band.

Rage played the full Pleasure Heads Must Burn live video of the Birthday Party last night. I've never been a massive Birthday Party fan (probably a bit too avant-garde for my tastes when growing up) but was blown away by the live footage; they were obviously an immensely powerful live band. I'll be digging out the old BP albums and revisiting their stuff.

The title track of Pop Crimes is awesome. As is Wayward Man. Cool album. Nice recommend bs.

No worries Zebs.

My favourite track on the album at the moment is Life's What You Make It it's almost hypnotic with the bass line and the guitar work is sublime.

There's not a bad track on the album.
