I remember years ago, mods pondering the fact that this would start happening one day and we have lost many a long term poster from this community.

So many voids to fill.

This is sad news. Obviously I didn’t know Ron but noticed him for his stats. Someone would ask for some obscure fact and Ron would respond in the next post with the answer.

I also noticed he often posted his social views, although they don’t align with mine or others he was generally respectful in his discussions. I think as our world becomes more divided it’s important to have places where yput can read varied views so thanks Ron for sharing yours.

Thoughts go to his family and friends.

I actually had him pegged as older than 53 based on his views.

Sometimes in the midst of arguing you can forget that your adversary is a fellow human and not just words on a screen. And any argument online is basically meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

Hope he enjoys the big database in the sky, which is what I imagine heaven for a stats nerd would be like - when my time comes I hope to join him there.

Hello MB folks,

Unfortunately this news hasn't made its way to the Main Board, so I think he is worthy of a thread.

Ron The Bear has passed away.

A lot of you knew him as the stats man and that he was.

But he was also a good friend to a lot of posters here.

RIP Ron The Bear.

Naturally I never knew him but his postings were always quite reasonable, measured & without malice or venom.

Very sad news.

RIP Ron and sincerest condolences to his family and friends (irl or otherwise), we had some discussions even only a week or two ago that could best be described as 'robust', but it is horrible to realise that we'll never get to interact with him on here ever again. It's easy to lose sight of the fact that we deal with real people on here sometimes. If nothing else it's kind of nice to realise that, despite everything, my last interaction with him was to 'like' one of his posts.

This one hits hard. I can't remember the amount of times I tagged RTB to solve some dumb argument I backed myself into or just some really obscure question. Without fail he would always deliver and sometimes get involved in the messes I had created.

It's really beautiful that his family are posting on here, sometimes we really do forget that behind every single username is a real person and to hear their kind words is lovely.
