Farewell to a funny bastard who entertained me in my youth

During the late 1970s and early 1980s many kids from my generation knew we would be guaranteed an hour of entertainment on the ABC between 6 and 7 PM each weeknight when they screened The Goodies and Doctor Who.
If you get to watch The Goodies episode titled "South Africa" on DVD there are interesting commentaries included as a special feature. At the end of the episode when the three of them arrive back in England and they begin painting their faces black, there is a close-up of Tim before the fade-out. Tim was told not to do an Al Jolson-style "hand waving gesture" because the other two Goodies didn't think it would help get their anti-apartheid message and anti-discriminatory beliefs across. But Tim couldn't resist, and they found it funny enough to leave it in the final cut.
