Hi, any thoughts on the Rising Star Award?

If you get in early then there is value to be found. Here's a true smoky for you.

Archie Smith is a ruckman for Brisbane, Drafted in 2014 but yet to play a game. Son of an American NBA player who also played in the NBL. Archie was in the Aussie U18 Basketball team but switched to the greater sport. Anyway, after getting rid of Berger to Essendon, he is now in contention to play games. Trent West (our 2nd ruckman) played 2 games last year and his knee is dodgy.

He has come back from the break bulked up big time and a few very good reports have come out about his performances in Intra-club games. Grain of salt stuff but good to hear nonetheless. Looks like he finally may have the body to compete at AFL level.

Anyway, that's my case. $250-1 available and definitely worth a fiver on it if you ask me.

Solid value. Just don't waste it by betting on Richmond as a "sure thing" against the Bulldogs when they meet this year, like you have in the last three meetings between the two sides. Your NAB Challenge theory last year still makes me laugh, when you loaded up on your team to beat mine.

I am not singling you out, but there is some weird misconception about that has many, many people believe that the VFL has always been a superior competition to the VFA. This is not the case.

The Victoria Football Association was considered to be the more superior competition than the VFL in the early days, especially the real early days. In the very late 1800s and the very early 1900s, you will read about the strongest teams in both competitions being relatively even. Where the VFA proved superior to the VFL, especially in the real early days, is the VFL had laughing stocks such as Carlton and St. Kilda (fast forward 115 years and what's changed)?

In fact, while Carlton were consistently languishing in the bottom two, Footscray were dominating in the superior competition and that was a suggestion by many VFL critics that Footscray and Port Melbourne should replace Carlton and St. Kilda to strengthen the VFL and make that become the premier competition.

The only reason why fans wrongly think of the VFL being the superior competition is due to the more money it had.

Footscray proved they were a part of the stronger league when they smashed Essendon in 1924 to be declared champions of Victoria. Hawthorn and North Melbourne can thank Footscray's dominance for their arrival in the VFL.

In case you don't realise, Footscray are considered to be the most dominant VFA team in the history of the (more superior) competition.

Obviously it hasn't turned out that way looking at things 90 years later, but remember Footscray were the first of those three teams to play finals, and the first team to win a flag.
