Hi all

I have decided to create a rising star thread for the board as there has been much debate in other threads.

We already have our first rising star nominated vs Adelaide round 12 Brennen Cox

Much debate as to which one of Cerra or Brayshaw will be nominated next.

Here is an article that doesn't have Cox in it even though he has a nomination however features both Cerra and Brayshaw based on anticipation.

Over the back half of the season I hope we can fill this thread with a few predictions as well as actual nominees.

I predict Brayshaw will be next and it will come against Brissy on Sunday.

20% of our nominations in the last ten years have been against Brisbane:

Taberner (2014), Weller (2016)

50% of our nominations in the last ten years have come in round 20 or later:

Suban (2009), Morabito (2010), Clarke (2011), Taberner (2014), Ryan (2017)

Brissy has been good for the Freo youth in recent years.

I remember that Tabs game when he dominated in the air.

I was really impressed with Tucker up to halftime in his first year however faded as Freo thrashed the Lions. I thought he would have been in the box seat but Weller pipped him.

Personally I thought Cerra should have got it when Cox did.

Don’t get me wrong, great to see Cox getting on the scoresheet, but two of those goals were gime’s. Cerra was best on ground.

Anyway, surely he will get the next nomination.

This sounds like the consensus of most posters and I have to agree. I thought Cox was terrific though. He was the most dangerous key forward for both teams and helped win Freo the match.

Edit: I just relised I didn't post the article and is now included in the OP

In terms of “body of work”, both Brayshaw and Cerra have enough for nomination. It’s really a matter of who will have an above average game and have a decent highlight reel.
My unbiased opinion is that my buddy will edge out the rest and get the nod this week.

The whole nomination concept is shit. A 1st year player could play the game of his life and do nothing else for the rest of the season meaning some other kid doesn't get nominated.

What about the kid who doesn't have a breakout game but is consistently good all year without an nomination. Joke of a system - just amateur all round.

You don't see this rubbish in any other league in the world let alone best and fairest awards in the AFL.

Needs to change - just award it to the best young player.

I think we should all get our hopes up that one of Cerra, Brayshaw, Banfield or Giro gets it. But then Rayner tears us a new one with 3-4 goals and we are left in a pool of our own tears.

Could be a good game for our first year players though... Banfield might tag Zorko and if he keeps him quiet there will be a lot of noise about him again. They are going quite tall down up forward (if Oscar McInerney plays) so we might have good rebound meaning Cerra could have another good one off half back or even pushing into the midfield. Can see Brayshaw spending a fair bit of time in the midfield and he's just come off playing a fair bit on Cripps (he must have learnt a heap from that) and fresh from a week off. And Giro v Taylor might be interesting to watch on the outside - both have speed and endurance. If Fyfe, Neale and Langdon come out firing our youngsters could all get off the leash as Brisbane have to focus on combating them.

I reakon Giro is a big chance today, the kid is just all class, has a great cleaver and calm footy mind paired with an absolutely beautiful kick. This kid is going to be something special for Fremantle

Cerra is our second nomination

Hope Brayshaw gets one soon

Pretty sure all Andy has to do is play in our next win (assuming there is one) and he'll get it. Unless of course Huge comes in and kicks 7.

Failing that, he'll get 20 touches one week and that'll do the job. Only really Higgins left of the blokes who really deserve one from other teams. Hoping Banners gets one. Was easily the best performed draftee for the first month of the season.
