A few other threads address the issue of trades, with most posters hoping to offload garbage like Eagleton or Rusca for good talent. If another "Bandy" isn't waiting out there and we have no dough and want to keep our first 2 draft picks, what about "bad boys"?

I'm personally against this, but I was wondering how many Fevola/Burns types have actually come good over the years with a change of clubs, or is it a case of a leopard not changing its spots?

Its not exactly a new path (I didnt say rhode, I didnt say rhode, whoops I just said it then didnt I?) for the doggies is it?

Cook, James, Jako, etc... all bad boys tried and failed.

I think thats your answer there.

You are way better off looking for guys that want a change, or are surplus to the requirements of their current club.

I was more interested in whether other clubs have much success with this.

Plugger was a bit off the rails prior to the swans. Always had talent.

Sav Rocca wasn't a bad boy but was delisted and done well at North

Thanks Chops.

I'm a big fan of Martin Pike, but I suspect that his off-field fun continues.

Another factor whether we get any of these type of players is the background and approach of Rhode who, on the face of it, would hate the Fevolas and Burns of this world.

Sav was a bad boy once but his mum spanked him and he never did it again.

For every one or two bad boys that turn it around there would be 6 or 8 that fail. The days of taking a punt on a Doc Wheildon are just about gone as most get weeded out by the junior teams.
Unless a players has great chance of turning it around most clubs are not interested. The lists are too small now days to take the risk

I suspect more of the players off field fun continues. They are not robots and a bit of fun on the weekend does not impact there performance 7 days later.

Adam Heuskes and Cummings both had great seasons a couple of times after a change of clubs(unfortunately for Heuskes he is a dead set moron and no amount of club changing will fix that) and both were reported to have a few problems with getting out on the juice mid week and that sort of thing.

This is where you are wrong. AFL clubs int he past have found another club dumb enough to take players such as :-

Paul Dooley
Andrew Wills
Josh Mahoney
Robert Stephenson
Michael Johnston
Allen Jakovich
Stephen Pitt

to name just a few. If not direct trades then these players were taken with draft picks when others could have been selected.

This gives me hope that we may get a trade for Bartlett or Rusca.

eagleton got a go towards the end of the season and acted like he could play (we at the bulldogs know the truth!) so maybe a club would be interested.

Yeah, maybe Werribee :D
Seriously though, who would want players like Eagle and Bartlett?

No

No to Fevola and any other troublemakers.

We have a first year coach who has enough to worry about in trying to maximise the potential of his resources without such destructive influences.

What sort of message does it send to McMahon and Power and co when you bring in such undisciplined types. That will not advance us to a premiership. I'd rather we offer a spot to someone perhaps less talented but will bust his gut for the team.
