Slow slow slow.

Hasn't looked good since he came back against North Melbourne and can't keep up with the pace of AFL.

Big call but the game has past this guy.

He'd be first in line to be dropped for Warnock IMO.

That said, I wouldn't go so far as to say the game has passed him by. He's a good, solid player.

Silly call to say that the game has passed him by. He's a key part of our future imo.

Silly call?

He's obviously the odd one out in our emerging backline. He had blokes running around him all night.

Leave the negative threads for mid week. Lets soak up the win while we can! :p

(But yeah, Rivers is in strife)

An injury or two later in the season and we'll need Rivers down back. It held up well without Warnock by the way.

He'll find his place in my opinion.

The game has not passed him. However i do not belive he is not in our best back 6 and by extenion our best 22. He should make way for Warnock next week, and we will have to wait and see what the future holds for the man.

He may be next in line for a Johnstone/McLean style trade. He is worth a late first round GC selection.

I think we have a wealth of tall defenders and Rivers, at the moment, would be behind Frawley, Warnock, Garland (still finding his feet after his injury), and arguably MacDonald. Hell, even Stef Martin looked really good as a backman last year.

He's obviously a good leader around the club, and should be a reasonable player for us in the future.

BUT, we are a little too tall in our backline and I see Rivers being the most expendable out of the aforementioned players. If we can get a decent trade for him, I'd be up for at least strongly considering it.

Completely agree, whilst Rivers has seemed to lose some of the reliablesness he once had, for the back 6 needs to be a little more balanced. I believe he can still play good footy at AFL level, but we do seem to be one small defender short (pardon the pun).

From where I sat in the stands at TIO stadium on saturday, he looked pretty darn good to me. Lots of effective spoils and often up the ground in contests. I think you might be seriously underestimating his value to the team.

His first half was pretty terrible I thought, but he wasn't alone in the back half, thought Warnock was pretty average too.

Riv couldn't go with Mooney in the first ten minutes, then getting beaten one out by Podsiadly in the 2nd when Pods made it look all too easy. To compound that, a couple of poor kicks.

Rivers had a dark day today, no doubt. Pod's showed up him and then Warnock. Didn't think Garland had a good one either. Silver plate delivery certainly didn't do them any favours. How was the difference in quality of ball going inside 50 between the two sides..we were dominated, but Geelong are that good.

I was dumfounded by the matchups. Frawley is quick but there is a difference between speed and agility. Bruce should have gone to Johnson and left Frawley to take Mooney or Pods. Rivers was always going to be undersized.

I did think he was horrible though and one of our worst. I thought he was worse than Warnock. When he went to mark that up and under ball, and Hawkins came in and marked it instead, I cringed.

Rivers and Garland. I shit myself every time he ball heads to their opponent.

i agree, its hard to know where to play him, cant seem to do the job on the key forwards, and too slow for a small running forward Maybe chuck foward, see how he goes
