The club is living in the realm of irrelevancy.
Not sure we will be any good for years.
Keeping Merrett has proven to be a mistake as we are just treading wate.
The club will implode if we lose next week.
Again.
We are so boring to watch.
Caddy, robey, kako are fun but who else?
Freo have Bolton, Reid, Jackson, treacy, Voss, young, Frederick, Dudley who are fun to watch
You clearly do not understand the rules of Tank Bowl sir. Any one who kicks a goal next week should be delisted /s

We were always going to be shit for years, it takes time to have enough goes at the draft to pull together a core group and discard all the senior players who aren’t up for it

Of course we will be no good for years. Your man Adrian has only been out the door for two years.
You know he was no good.
What else do you expect?
3 years ago I said said we would be at least 8 years away if it went right.
You need to stop looking at it like a disgruntled supporter.
You know the reality.
There is probably another two years before we can get a real handle on what Rosa is building.
Let’s face it, Fremantle have hardly been an overnight success.

Pretty simple. We are not a good enough side to be kicking 1.9 in a half against a top 4 side.
Looks way different even if we were 4.6.
We just have to keep turning the list over.

Didn't watch the second half. Did some gardening instead for my mental health.

Sorry for my melts before that. Glad to hear Robey continued his good form. Made myself a promise while gardening to be better and just enjoy the small things and improvement. A more positive outlook my new goal from now on.

Can't wait to get Kako and Sharp back in after the bye hopefully.

If we take too long to start showing progress (and I mean ‘start’), then it will be our young stars having their heads turned by contending teams. Players won’t want to waste their talents in a team that can’t lift beyond mediocrity for 25 years. We need buy-in from the likes of Caddy, Robey, May, Kako, Farrow, Reid, Sharp and Martin to really want to be successful together. This is where the club needs to be smart with coaching selection. If the vibe is that Scott hasn’t got that group of kids believing in him then we need to find someone who can sell that belief.

There is a lot of meh going on outside of a few good young players. Some can go through large patches uncited.
Aside from the young players...
Blakiston was beaten early, but found a way to work his way into the game.
Parish and Perkins had some nice F50 entries in the wet, but also quiet at times.
McGrath tried to get some run going.
Setterfield first game for the year, got a few tackles.

My prediction is Scott will go. A new coaching staff will get some improvement and the young blokes will drive it.
I am not overly worried about the young blokes leaving.
They already have a bond built around being the ones to drive it forward.
If we are failing badly at the end of 2028 then the build will be another flop and it will not matter if Caddy walks.

Best thing imo would be to get another big haul of draft picks this year and prioritise anyone with a serious competitive streak. Head into next year with a group of a dozen or so ultra competitive kids who hate losing drafted over the previous few years.

It will matter because losing a clutch of players, not only Caddy, will mean success will be out of sight for another decade. That is not acceptable to our supporters and many will check out.

I agree but we are 1 and 9 and play a boring game of footy.
Look what Melbourne have done compared to us.
We continuously pull the wrong reign

If this fails then it will happen anyway.

Bad goal kicking and even worse umpiring in the first half took away any resemblance of competivness.
Why women are allowed to umpire mens games is still beyond me.
The next 3 weeks will be VERY interesting. Think we've shown enough to be optimistic.

Since Rosa has had full control it has only really been the Merrett decision. I would have traded him but Hustwaite would not be moving the needle and the fact is we already knew we could get pick 10 out of the Blues.
It will be what happens this year I think. They need a 2027 first from someone. The overall haul may be less but it may be strategically better.

Losing cultures can gradually regress a club.
Its a real possibility we could be rubbish for 40 years+

Its happened to several clubs in the past, but never Essendon, yet..

Is the defensive strategy suppose to be bruise free, the number of times in the first half, we had numbers around the contest only for Freo players to find space and run free, and the number of times, Freo players took marks without contact from an Essendon player, and isn't it better to go 1:1 when it's wet?

Melbourne have had a decade or so of drafting similar types of competitors to add to players with actual Premiership experience.

We do not have either. It’s not really comparable.

We’re Melbourne circa 2012 more than we are Melbourne today.

I hope so - So we can win a premiership in 9 years then? 🎉💪

I am starting to think Caldwell is just shit.
What is he actually good at?
I can't be sure, but I thought I'd read during preseason that he'd gotten injured. I've been wondering if he's been playing with a niggle.

His recent lack of competitiveness is out of character IMO. Last season some were positing that he could be our next captain. The drop off doesn't make sense.

The coaches want to play a stoppage game therefore all the players get sucked into the contest trying to win the hard ball. So if we get it, we have nobody to give it to or have to do a dinky 1m handball to the team-mate next to them. And if we lose the stoppage, the opposition are usually unmarked and/or in space.

The game is too fast these days to play a pure 1:1 - even in wet conditions.
