Too much hysteria on here. Our age and experience profile on field right now shows we are not the top four side of recent years, we are are very young and inexperienced side but a side with lots of upside.

Long injury list to key players and players not 100% who are playing is hurting.

One more loss and the season is done so time to bank the good things about missing finals, better draft position, better 2019 draw, longer off season break to get bodies right.

So less hysteria please, our list is in good shape for a long future, so many highly talented kids developing.

Aliir is the only one who won his position
Aliir didn't really have an opponent. He played mostly as a loose man. He picked up lots of marks (as loose defenders do) but he did bugger all to turn that into attack.

Aliir is a great mark. But not a great brain and not so good by foot. We miss Macca

We have far too many of our best players out to challenge in finals. Our young players are lacking leadership. Buddy is probably injured. Too many of our players lack skills or are just inconsistent and go missing every other game.

Feel free to think he's doing well.

He looks to me like one of the premier defenders in the comp.
Things are not binary like that.

You are not either elite or complete s**t.

Ridiculous but run with that I guess.

Kidding, right?
That statement is an oxymoron and shows a complete lack of respect for any opinion that doesn't match yours.

I am not blindly loyal, nor do I have my head in the sand, and I find that comment offensive.

**None of the rest of this is to you, I just can't be bothered to start another post...:p

Horse can not get out there and play for them. He cannot stop them from falling off tackles, missing tackles, not chasing, not taking responsibility for your own man or your own game. He can't drop them, because there is no-one to replace them, we have reached the bottom of the barrel. Perhaps our youth are tired and sore, but they have to go on, and how well they do so is up to them. The same goes for our older players. This is their job. Half the office down with the flu? You don't get to shut up show, you just go and do the best you can. Look at Aliir. He is playing under the same coach, in the same game plan and he is WORKING HIS ARSE OFF! He is well aware that his long kicks are not nearly as good as short, so he is kicking short. He is playing to the best of his ability and taking his second chance with both hands. Cunningham is not as talented, but he too is giving it his all. Buddy is playing on no training, Parker is practically killing himself... who else?

How you or any of the commentators for that matter, was able to pin either this game or the last on the game plan is beyond me! The commentators continuous dribble about our out-dated, unfashionable game plan is clearly part of a well-developed campaign by Fox and the AFL to gain public support for their proposed changes to the way the game is played. And if this board is anything to go by, it is clearly an effective plan.

I haven't heard one comment from any of the so-called experts in the media, or on here for that matter, about how the 'trade-ban' post Buddy is impacting us right now! We have 5 players with 100+ to 200 games, Essendon have 12, West Coast have 12, Crows have 12, Tigers have 10, Collingwood have 12, Port have 13, and the Giants have 9 (with 4 more in the 80 to 90s range). We are in a rebuild sure, and that is certainly having an impact, but it's the players we would (or maybe could) have brought in during that restricted period that is the issue.

Our club, including Horse, has done a simply marvellous job in keeping us competitive. Maybe we won't make the 8, maybe we will lose all games from here on in, but that doesn't change the facts.
Excellent post.

Hey fellas. Bad luck, we got a dream run with the umps and I was surprised that you couldn't go with us at all for the second half. Aliir is a star, well done on locking him up for 3 more years. Good luck for the rest of the season.

Thats far too critical imo. Given the crap that rampe and the rest of the defence produced,im not sure what else could have been expected of aliir LLP

Midfield frequency stats for the game. For those that haven't seen one of these posts before, this is an overall summary of how often players started as one of the 5 mids at each centre bounce.

There were 26 bounces

Cunningham 21 wing
Florent 19 (16w, 3i)
Kennedy 19
Hewett 19 (14i, 5w)
Parker 18
Heeney 16
Newman 6 (4w, 2i)
Hayward 2
Papley 2
Jones 2 wing
Lloyd 1 wing
O'Riordan 1 wing
Ronke 1

NB> The far winger couldn't be determined on 1 occasion due to 7 still showing replays 15-20secs after play had restarted.

Rucks:
Sinclair 23
Dawson 3

Notes:
- On 1 occasion, you started with only 2 inside mids (Merrett was unattended), on another occasion Zaharakis started without an opponent on the wing and ran around unattended for 60-90secs.
- Very odd to bring in a specialist inside mid like Dawson and not give him a single start in the role, especially when you consider the number of guys who don't regularly get starts who were given starts instead, and that Fox wasn't used at all either
- Papley & Hayward split starting off the back of the square at bounces. Hayward received his equal most ever midfield appearances in an analysed game, and his first inside mid start in an analysed game since Rd 2, 2017.
- Most ever starts for Newman as an inside mid in an analysed game.
- Jones's first midfield appearance (in an analysed game) since Rd 8 - this was the 9th Swans match analysed since then
- Ronke's first inside mid start in an analysed game since Rd 11 - all bar the Gold Coast match have been analysed since

Thanks for that, good analysis.

Amazing that Dawson didn't get a single centre bounce. Like I get that he's very inexperienced at AFL level but our midfield is in dire straits and to bring in our best NEAFL midfielder and play him anywhere but is just baffling.

Also, our best small forward in Papley had one possession in the forward 50.

Stop trying to make fetch happen. Wait, I mean stop trying to make Papley as a midfielder happen. He's genuinely a mediocre midfielder but a really good small forward.

Taking a step back and trying to see where to go from here.

Disheartening loss, but need to give some credit as the bombers were clearly the better side.

You can feel the tide really starting to turn against the swans - the media ramped it up this week, the commentators hammered on about our boring game play, and then umpires did their bit too.

At this rate I doubt we will make the 8 and playing like that we don’t deserve to be there.

Something needs to change, and that something isn’t throwing one of our best one on one defenders (Grundy) up forward.

There just seems to be little inspiration coming from the coaching box... maybe, after all these years of success we just aren’t used to losing like this but perhaps it should be expected given our youngsters, injuries and loss of experience

Finding the comment offensive is odd, we have played the same style and had these problems for 2 years sorry it can’t be defended anymore

But yep it’s an opinion, sorry but I am not going to type disclaimers not to be offended every time I post, I have seen horse as an issue for 2 years, not 2 weeks, so I am infuriated to watch andninfuriated to see new excuses every week, while we piss away success.

Sorry just my view,

I mean, part of that was thrust upon the club with the trade ban - something that will forever infuriate me.

But with that said, the list is in a bad spot right now (injuries notwithstanding) and our gameplan does not line up with our talent anymore. We need a BIG evolution of our list this offseason. Like 2009 offseason, where we managed to find Kennedy, McGlynn, and Mumford. We need ready-made senior players who can compete for best-22 spots immediately.

Whether Longmire is around or not. And as much as he's getting piled on right now, Longmire I think has a personality of being frank with those around him. He's not silly, he must know things are bad right now and that he might be losing influence on the playing group.

Longmire does tend to be frank just ask Tom mitchell

Sorry just my view,
I don't expect that you will share my opinion or anyone else's. It's the passing judgement on those that don't agree with you that I find offensive.

I haven't asked for, nor do I expect, an apology.

John said that Buddy had only trained 20 minutes the whole season in an interview before the game. Apart from that burst in the third quarter he definitely didn't look himself out there. Maybe we should just put him on ice for the rest of the season and get him ready for next year.

Lol then why mention being offended..... never mind. It doesn’t mattter

We are all here for the same reason

Sydney win- look how great horse is can’t be critical we won

Sydney lose- horse isn’t out there what do you want him to do

Just balancing out the Horse is hopeless all the time mantra from some.

The second point is more: Horse doesn’t have the seasoned campaigners available/fit to compete with the best sides, what do you want him to do.

Bottom of the barrel.

Look we need some big list changes and a change to the gameplan, but thats done during preseason. As I said last week we are done from a contending point of view in 2018. Time to start looking forward to 2019 and continue getting time into players we feel will be a part of that.

I don't know.....if a player challenges a coach as though he knows better then he deserves a spray. If the garden gnome felt persecuted then perhaps he should have followed instructions to improve his game earlier than he did. There is attack and DEFENCE. Reading between lines I personally think the garden gnome got ahead of himself in self belief. Not unhappy he's not here.....and a little tired of hearing what a loss he was/ is. Greatly overrated.
