For sure. Just offering an explanation for why he may have bounced it. On the replay it looks like he did it to help himself get balanced.

I thought it was because he was going to try and run around the guy then get straight and kick the goal so took the precautionary bounce so he could try what he wanted.
He's made a lot of mistakes the past month or so, he's learning what he can and can't do at the moment.

He's one of the morons that thinks it's better for us to stink and get a higher draft pick this early in our rebuild.

I'd rather push this group to the absolute limit to try and make finals and settle for still a pretty high first rounder instead of getting belted each week to get a slightly higher pick.

We kept Merrett because of what we are building. He wouldn't give a sh*t where we draft
id argue we need depth over sharper quality with the midfield we already have.
If the difference between building this winning culture is we miss a Bailey Smith or Rozee but land a Butters, i'll take it.

My understanding of the rule is that you are judged HTB if you are tackled and bounce the ball. But as others have pointed out, he bounced and was tackled on the ball's return - which I didn't think was HTB at all.

Angles from the umpire and arms could have meant it looke dlike the tackle was earlier.

TBH - I though Cox was smart to try to get around in that manner. Smith is quick and had Nik's measure on the attempt.

Thought Snelling was excellent. Was extremely tough in the contest
Yeah not sure on stats but there were a few groundball contests he won and didn’t necessarily get it out to our advantage but stopped Dogs doing so.

it was a red hot call. As if they were looking for them
I had no issue with the call, but the speed with which it was called annoyed me. Esp when Bont was getting an age to dispose of balls, then having frees go his way for subsequent acts as part of the tackles....that were tackles

I think it was boncer34 that explained it well, where the rule and interpretation at the moment don't quite meet.

But the rule, Bont was caught red hot.

By the judgment on the field, I heard at least 3 or 4 times in our game alone "he made an attempt" when trying to dispose of the ball. I think ZM7 was one that was deep in the bullies F50 that got slung and foot was nowhere near the ball - I guess they are suggesting that this action is equal to having a ball knocked out in a tackle, though I'm no umpire.

All the new rules this year are designed to promote free flowing of the game - just like Stand, running on from kick ins and allowing the ball to rattle around at the bottom of the pack for 2 minutes until a ball up is blown. The HTB is not one I agree with.

Same same yep.

The best pick we can currently get is pick 7. For that to happen we have to lose both our games, Richmond have to beat GWS or Hawthorn, and either Fremantle beat St Kilda and St Kilda beat Geelong, or St Kilda beat Fremantle and Fremantle beat West Coast. If we win one more game then pick 7 becomes almost impossible, because the loser of Fremantle vs St Kilda would either tie us on 40 PP and be below on percentage or are below us outright. The only option for us there is for Fremantle and St Kilda to draw and then win their other games against West Coast and Geelong.

Meanwhile, to make finals, we need to win both our games and either GWS lose at least one game, or West Coast lose at least two of their three remaining games. Richmond is our nearest rival for that last spot in the 8, which means they would have to beat GWS (8 point game). We'd probably prefer that they beat GWS to make a spot for us and then lose to Hawthorn so they're out of our way :drunk:

With that context, the better pick or the finals berth are both unlikely, we finish either 9th and miss the 8 on PP, or 10th and miss pick 8 on percentage. So we get either pick 9 or pick 10... there's really not a lot of difference in it.

With where our list is at, you really just want to see growth – a red hot attempt at winning games, more consistency, playing their best games and winning the ones they should win (where they're the better team on the day). If that's finals, pick 7, or something in between is overall less important than getting the culture right and the systems bedded in for the long term.

One bloke who will never get any credit from our own supporters is Gleeson.

What did Gleeson's direct opponent do yesterday? Not a heck of a lot..almost nothing.

Gleeson showed how important it is to have a defender who plays tight on their opponent and then lays 6 tackles to assist the other defenders. It's called doing your job and doing it well. Something that should be rewarded.

fair point. almost didn't notice he was out there tbh. Which is great for a defender as long as you're not noticing their opponent.

I do wonder if he hangs around as a fringe player, or heads elsewhere looking for more game time/better contract

We seem to heap praise on Ridley and Redman and Laverde. Yet if it is not for Stewart or Gleeson yesterday, those 3 come under more pressure.

Knows the system and plays safe, mistake free footy.

The anti Gleeson slander has been pretty embarrassing if I’m honest.

Also goes to show how midfield pressure can elevate defenders by allowing them to take proactive position and play the game on our terms

Just watched the replay

How good’s Durham? Thought he was mid-20’s for some reason, the fact he’s just turned 20 is damn exciting.

Also like to see a bit more love for Clarke - not the most talented bloke in the world, but gives his all. I’d love to keep him around, even if he is only depth
agree, thought they were both good yesterday. The first time I'd seen Durham play.

Totally agree. Well said.
