He is such a high performing and professional player that it’s alarming he was shut down and as far from the contest as much as he was, given the broader context of the offseason drama.

I don’t think that’s unreasonable. It’s exceedingly rare for him to perform like that. Personally I’d be betting on a couple more such exhibitions before the year’s out. He’s just too good for it not to be a reflection of his inner workings IMO.

The fact we didn't move Merrett is one thing, but in my opinion we're going to rue not starting to move on the likes of Parish, Langford, Ridley over the last two two trade periods when they had interest and they had some value.

I doubt many VFL teams could afford Parish's contract.

But yes, getting rid of Ridley along with Zerrett should have been no brainers. A bit of manipulation of Draper's salary at Brisbane and we could have had as much as 6 top 15 picks.

Full backs aren’t measured on the possessions. Larkey kicked 6 last week in a loss and he only kicked 2 in a win on McKay. He’s on 450k a year. Not really worth the intrusion to post this garbage.

His job is to shut down the oppositions best key forward and not to distribute the footy out of the back half/leave that to the more skillful types. Now whether that’s enough to warrant the money he is getting paid is another question but his role isn’t to have the ball in his hands.

His $$ are front loaded - we have no one else to pay and have to use xx amount of salary cap, so the McKay acquisition was as much about keeping the cap together as anything else whilst buying Hayes, Reid Kondo etc time to develop in the backline.

That’s the justification, I don’t rate him. But it’s not as diabolical as some make it out to be.

I just realised…it’s taken 26 years to go from 20-1 in 2000 to potentially 1-20 this year…what a fall from grace…I didn’t think it would come to that…

It should have happened 10 years ago. We needed to clean house post saga and hit the draft. We weren’t strong enough to take that course of action. We’re eating the vegetables we should’ve eaten in 2017-2020.

I hear a lot of complaining about our performance. I get it, we’re shit. But what’s the alternative? Bring in Luke Parker types to prop us up to mid table finishes? We’ll exist in purgatory for the next 20 years.

The next couple of years will suck, but it’s the only way. The only joy we’ll get will be the rare win and performance of our young players in the face of crushing adversity. It will be worth it in the long run.

Also need to bite the bullet on some players we have held onto too long in Cox, Jones, Perkins. Guelfi, Gresham etc.

Agree with all of that. Despite what I said, you can’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. But all of the players you mentioned can go. Jones had 5 possessions in the VFL FFS. Parish too

I don’t think we have the best list in the world but at the same token I think there are a lot of players underperforming. I can handle the losses but we have too many passengers and players out of form at the moment.

his money is presumed to be heavily front-loaded. he's actually probably a good trade target for a team in a good position but who needs another key back but I suspect we would get ourselves in the way
