Willo should be played on a wing or even run through he middle....he was always a hard running mid, with excellent endurance.

Never a defender before arriving at Princes Park afaiaw.
Yes - but we seem to have a nasty habit of turning midfielders into backmen.

The amount of Gibbons-haters on this board is extraordinary. If we had 22 blokes take the field each week with his effort and work-rate we'd win a lot more matches.

Yet when it comes to Dow - he's a gun, or Cunners - he's a gun, or McGovern - he's a gun. It's a joke. In a team that carries far too many passive players at least Gibbons & Fogarty hit the contest hard, put their head over the bloody ball when it's their turn, run both ways and can stick a ******* tackle.

End Rant!!!
Oooh, ooh, now do Plowman.

Lack of system and/or implementation thereof means that Gibbons and Ed are the guys on the end of possession chains by virtue of effort - this one is on the coaches
Definitely on the coaches for this one.

Okay settle down big boy. No one mentioned Lachie “the little master” Fogarty and never questioned their work rate either. I just hate it when our team play like millionaires. It’s not only Gibbo too. This sort of stuff loses games of footy.

Pretty impressive forward line tonight given we are missing Charlie, jsos, fisher and Martin through injury...most clubs would struggle imo.

To try to give port equivalents it would be like them missing Dixon, Gray, rozee and motlop. And not able to bring in Ladhams who would equal tdk.

Our depth is quite impressive.

If we could only say that about our on ball division!

What bit loses games of footy?

Guys like Gibbo, Fog or any other players that gain possessions and have an impact on the scoreboard aren't our issue

It's players that go missing for large periods or have minimal impact that are the concern, hence the changes this week

Seriously happy with the changes! Shows Teague and the MC ARE capable of throwing down the gauntlet after all.

Don't worry about Dow and Setters, they'll be fine, a run in the twos for a couple should do them both good. Up to them to force their way back in now.

Kennedy had to be rewarded for his efforts and will do well tomorrow, Port have a tough team and his physical presence mid/forward will help. Hope too see him string a few good ones together thereafter too, but let's see. I'm sure he knows what he has to do, now down to him...

No more injuries please and most importantly a blues win. Then for the first time in ages we can all get excited! Fingers crossed.

Not sure Dow and setters will be fine, but enough of treating former high picks with kids gloves. We have a decent enough group of players now we don’t have to pick on supposed potential.

If Dow and Setters are good enough, they will have to prove it the same way that anyone else pressing for selection has to, regardless of draft position, if ex rookie or whatever .

If they outperform the likes of Stocker, Ramsey, cuningham, Carroll etc at VFL level, they can come in when a spot is available. If not, they are behind them.

Totally possible any of those mentioned will end up being far better AFL players than Dow or Setters.

I’ve had enough of this “he was a pick 3 with unlimited potential let’s play him for 50 games in a row” BS. We cant carry mids who get 8 possessions a game and apply minimal pressure and don’t even use it well when they get it like Dow.

Don’t get me started on Gibbo. Butchers the footy all the time but he becomes the greatest kick ever when he’s in front of the big sticks. He’s a goer and I love his story but jeez he can be selfish. Goes for the spectacular way too often. And Jones is a great kick to a lead when he’s under no pressure but if it’s in open play he either needs to kick it wide and long or hand pass to literally anyone else. These are bad habits I see every week. Coaches have to be honest with these blokes.

I think Gibbo uses it fine, just can’t kick over 40 metres.

Needs a year VFL come in 17-19 when we can't make finals .. as most of our young players should have, but we were S---e so we smashed them . Now we are in a very precarious position we have old players that aren't good enough but are Better developed to maybe win today .

Yes he should be thankful he has arrived at the club when he has, he can be eased in when ready (unless we have some crazy injury crisis)

Just put this here from 2s thread as be nice if more people saw it IMO.

Oh it was brilliant back in the day FF . Get to princes Park as a young fella with a good friends parents. Park at the zoo (free). Friends mum would have a thermos of sweet tea and a basket full of goodies, sandwiches, cakes etc. to get you through the whole day set up on the fence seating.

Watch the u19s sparingly as we would be out the PARK HAVING A KICK. (12Y/O attention span :D ) Marginally more attentive during reserves (as an adult now would watch all three with interest) and place starting to fill. By the time seniors came out the place packed and the seats on fence were gold except mighty hard to work your way out to the dunnies (scary place back then :poo: )and back through the shoulder to shoulder standing room crowd.

Worst thing AFL ever did was changing this structure and today will show that it could be kept going in a slightly modified form, watch reserves and then head to the "G ' , also pretty easy to have the u19s play before.

Get rid of this Bull---t TAC cup. My boy went through the whole Calder Cannons crap and thats exactly what it was. A production line with no soul and also virtually no opportunity to play seconds if good enough and test yourself against men. SANFL and WAFL kill us in this respect and any wonder their kids are a safer draft pick than ours..
Oh well enough ranting for now but if you happen to run into Gill at the Portsea polo be nice to pass this idea on! ;)

BACK TO THE FUTURE !!!

P.S. The LARGE NUMBERS will be back this ARVO :thumbsu:

I’ve written a bit about this in another thread. Back in under 19s days, young guys could at least be given a taste playing against men in the reserves.

We have one of the worst offenders for going missing for large periods and having minimal impact coming in this week, Gov.

He’d want to provide a hell of a lot more than his supposed high impact low disposal 5 possession games of the past.

He needs to find a way to be involved even if things aren’t all going his way, like JSOS has become very good at.

I agree he does, but at least he has shown in the past he can have an impact, even from his limited touches

I dont think that Gov needs to rack up high possessions, I'd take 10-12 w ith 3 goals every day of the week. I would like him to apply more pressure and be some sort of hazard to the opposition rather than be a witches hat when we dont have the ball.
