I am happy for the umpires to suck a bag of dicks, but we can’t change their impact.
What we can do is actually get our disposal up to scratch. Shiel was very poor. Heppell fumbled a bit and him and Parish both kicked pretty badly. Merrett made a couple of unusual mistakes as well.
On the plus side, I liked that we were willing to take the game on. Saad’s running was immense. When players back their skills and go for aggressive kicks and get it wrong (Tippa in the last couple of minutes), you live with that. Missing simple targets, dropping chest marks and laying poor tackles is the frustrating part.
Overall I think it was a great game. Both teams played to their strengths and the game styles were wildly different. Collingwood came out the victor, but I think that it shows that our style can win even against very good teams.
