Bolton: 'Levi, you were absolutely superb on the weekend. You moved around the ground well and took some spectacular marks. And your set shots for goal are hard to look past. As a reward for your efforts, the match committee and I have come to an agreement that you will make way for Charlie.

Casboult: What... why?!

Bolton: Well he is a green shoot. A part of our exciting future and... well......................... you're not!

We could bring in Kennedy and Cuners for LOB and Polson and play Cuners off a wing.

Not saying we should but we could...

I just wanna see Cuners back. He was showing SPS levels improvement early on.

He’s ready to explode imo. Believes he belongs and more importantly he does belong. Slow starter and then injuries killed him but he’s ready now and has the skill to be an important cog.

We’re paying Charlie upwards of $750-800k a year. He’s a budding superstar who’s a bit rusty at present but playing in the twos does nothing for his development.
The VFL is for players that have another player ahead of them for a particular position or role OR for punishment.
Get him back if he’s right to go. Coaching staff need to improve the way they’re positioning in him.
They got it all wrong on Sunday. He was nowhere to be seen. Off spending all that dosh I expect.
I mean what the hell does what you think he earns have to do with it ?

Well said.

It's funny, you bring up a lot of good stats and arguments that have merit and i have done similar in a previous post.
Those numbers tell the story and beyond that it's been obvious to all of us when watching our games.

I have not seen any good arguments from those claiming Charlie should come in for Casboult...literally all i have seen is 'lol Charlie doesn't play 2's' type comments with zero analysis or actual arguments as to why.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is called making decisions based on reputation, emotion and 'just because' rather than proper reasons.

Happy to receive some actual reasons Charlie should play instead of Cas, beyond 'because it's Charlie Curnow'.
Be honest. You’ve made your mind up.

From now on it’s just an exercise in going around in circles on both sides of the argument.

We’ll all just have to wait and see what happens at selection and then again in the game.

Cuningham is an absolute no brainer in. Had a super pre season.

Practice match against the hawks he was almost our best on ground. Two JLT games he killed it.

Carried that form into round 1.

If he hadn't of got injured he would be the one all the media are banging on about.

He was injured. He never lost his spot. Polson is keeping it warm for him.

Sounds like he's unlikely to play going from the injury report anyway.

Bit worried that he was cleared but then a knock at training forced him out again...clearly not fully recovered.

Would hate for him to play, get a knock to his knee in the first quarter and gets injured again, bad for him and also leaving us a man down.

He certainly shouldn’t play unless he is absolutely 100%. No argument there.

I think he showed some promise.
In comparison to his efforts up to this year.
To say he killed it is really bizarre.

Has Kennedy earned his spot? Looked like a low-disposal game but only 22 on the weekend and wasn't named in many bests.

If Kennedy wants a permanent inside mid position he needs to go to another level. He's competing with Setterfield, Stocker, JSOS and to a lesser extent Walsh. Realistically you want 2, maximum 3 inside mids out there. We have Cripps + any of the above.

I actually don't see Kennedy sliding straight into our team when he's fit.

Tbh Crippa#9, I simply can’t see the relevance of Charlie’s salary. Imo, selecting a seriously out of sorts high earner, over a less well paid in-form alternative, does not give us value for money, and it risks sending the wrong message to both him and the rest of our list. Imo, Charlie is worth his salary when playing as well as we all know he can, but he hasn’t been anywhere near that standard this year. I continue to believe that a week in the twos will do him no harm, and may just do him and us some genuine good in the medium to longer term.

Anyway, I’ve tried to outline my position as clearly as I can - some seem to think similar to me, and some (probably most) similar to you. That’s okay - agree to disagree - and no doubt we can all come together in wanting whoever the Match Committee ends up running with to simply do the business against the Hawks, because if they do we might just go back-to-back.

Here's 1 reason, because Casboult only took 5 marks on the weekend. I am tipping that if Charlie had just 11 touches, 5 marks and 1 tackle everyone would be calling for him to stop partying.

Here is another. Charlie is simply a better player.

Here is a third, the more games we can have with Mitch, Harry and Charlie (plus Jack) as the marking talls the bette it will be long term.

Arguably Fisher and SPS as well given they start at lots of centre bounces and are good in-tight at the contest.
But we know they're locks and won't be dropped unless they have a really bad patch of form.

So based on last weeks team i think his main competition is JSOS and Gibbons. Then in reserve Setterfield and Stocker. That depth...

I like depth but I don't like giving up high draft picks for a player to be depth

Charlie needs to get a haircut and get serious. Thats what I reckon.
The team has lifted but so far in this season of practice matches and games for points he hasn't gone with it.
Partly a crook leg but mostly to my eyes it's headspace.
Start playing football and winning the football. Get back to basics. Apart from one snap kick type goal he hasnt done much.
Get your head right son and the worlds your oyster.

One thing i've noticed about our list build is we have an over abundance now of high draft pick mids...not all of them can fit in the one team.

So inevitably i think we will see some high draft picks not be best 22 and end up as depth (or traded).
Especially if we get a gun mid this off-season.

Lang, Kennedy, Setterfield, Cunners and Stocker all to come into the line up from the weekend.

With basically zero injuries to our mids (hallelujah!) there is serious competition for spots.

Will be the basis for lots of debate around here and that’s without trying to get a game or 2 for Stocker, Kerr, Macreadie and Schumacher. With a healthy list it’s going to be a long year for Fasolo and other fringe players like Lang.

He was a highly rated schoolboy 400 metre runner, so he would have reasonable pace and kick
No that’s not right. He’s more than ‘highly rated’.

He’s the current Vic 400m RECORD HOLDER for under 15. Meaning no kid that age has ever run faster for 400. He ran 51.something. Incredible time.

I don’t think his first 5 are electric....but if you haven’t got him by then....
