Bolton: 'Levi, you were absolutely superb on the weekend. You moved around the ground well and took some spectacular marks. And your set shots for goal are hard to look past. As a reward for your efforts, the match committee and I have come to an agreement that you will make way for Charlie.

Casboult: What... why?!

Bolton: Well he is a green shoot. A part of our exciting future and... well......................... you're not!
The reality is Casboult will have to make way for Charlie, however, I wouldn't drop him just yet.

If Charlie isn't 100%, I'd rest him and give Levi another opportunity. Whilst Levi is showing something, give Charlie every opportunity to get his knee in perfect condition. It's a long season. No point rushing him back only to have unable to perform to his potential due to niggles.

Once Charlie is 100% ready to go, the decision will have to be made on one of them.

Can't have 4 tall forwards in the team because if your structures aren't working, it makes it very difficult to implement a plan B. An example of this was the match against Gold Coast.

If only history was so clear-cut - imo, it merely shifts arguments into the past tense. For example, I give you the never to be resolved BF debate over whether we went in to the game against the Gold Coast with too many talls.
im with arrow on this one .. i was there at the game and the missed targets either by hand or foot and a lot of poor decision/composure moments in first half also late in game cost us that game more than any team selection ..

Good way to give a promising young forward a big head and feel entitled...not to mention it could cause ripples within the group if there are some seen to be favoured...Curnow is not Chris Judd.
I think there been a little exaggerating on Charlie this year, when you take in a couple of factors of injury setbacks and games that provided greasy conditions due to the humidity against Richmond which affected his marking abilities and clean handling which didn't help his game at all but still recorded great running numbers, on top of that he was looking good against Port until he went off injured, so he didn't start off playing like 2018 Charlie but nowhere as bad as what people have said so if he is good to go with Russell giving him the all clear he's a walk up start he's a match winner...

No one is questioning Charlie's value compared to Casboult. But this is a week by week situation. You simply don't punish hard work.

If both were performing well, you can make an argument. But so long as any player performs well in any week, you usually don't drop them.

No that’s not right. He’s more than ‘highly rated’.

He’s the current Vic 400m RECORD HOLDER for under 15. Meaning no kid that age has ever run faster for 400. He ran 51.something. Incredible time.

I don’t think his first 5 are electric....but if you haven’t got him by then....
Just didn't want to embarrass his pop

Watched the kid over his last 2 years of junior footy, I knew he had some wheels, but his short sprint work has really surprised me

When his body starts to mature/build, think many will reassess their current outlook/predictions

I completely agree, but unless we can somehow access Clive Palmer’s political advertising budget and use it to buy people off, we’re never going to convince the “too many talls” brigade to change their minds.

Well said.

It's funny, you bring up a lot of good stats and arguments that have merit and i have done similar in a previous post.
Those numbers tell the story and beyond that it's been obvious to all of us when watching our games.

I have not seen any good arguments from those claiming Charlie should come in for Casboult...literally all i have seen is 'lol Charlie doesn't play 2's' type comments with zero analysis or actual arguments as to why.

That, ladies and gentlemen, is called making decisions based on reputation, emotion and 'just because' rather than proper reasons.

Happy to receive some actual reasons Charlie should play instead of Cas, beyond 'because it's Charlie Curnow'.
Who says Casboult has to be the one that makes way for Curnow as good as Jack was he'd be the one I'd be making way for Charlie not only a better upgrade but can also play the same positions...

Ok , here goes from Russell’s report :
Curnow to rest this week
Williamson 1 more in the reserves
Cuningham to play this week

1 change :
In : Cuningham
Out : Polson
I’m not quite sure how they don’t pick Cunners. They brought Marchy in off no preseason. Cunners has kept running. Trained fully last week and this. Is a MILE better than Polson.

That's a very valid point and I agree with it in most situations.

The reality is you can only select 22 players, so there's always going to be someone who's stiff to miss out. If you run through other teams 2nds, you'll find a myriad of names who could be getting a game at the top level at another club. Steven Motlop played in the SANFL over the weekend and had 31 touches and 10 clearances. If he's on our list, he's getting a game at AFL level on our half forward flank.

My main concern is that Harry should be the main focal point. This season he's had 4 good games and 1 bad game. I don't think it's a coincidence that his bad game was against Gold Coast when we had 4 KPF's roaming in the same forward 50.

Thanks windows. Was def aware of his record. Just wanted to know about that first 5. That’s been my first observation too, but was hoping I was wrong. Love to know his 100pb or his 20m time.

I think we will go tall and really worry their defence. Scully will have to play on one of the smaller forwards. Polson, Cuningham or Gibbons. Seems Scully has his running ability going well. Gibbons would be a great matchup, pretty sure he can cover the K's, not sure on Cuningham, he probably can. Not like Scully will be able to line of on Curnow, McKay, Casboult, Silvagni or McGovern. Ed Curnow is also a good option to play forward on him a bit.

I really think we can play our own game here and make things very tough. Have them for height, lots of marking power, dominate clearances. Two way runner on Scully.

Sounds like Cuningham is right to go. Don't think he comes back via the VFL. He had a month of breakout games during the JLT series and round 1.

Happy for Williamson to spend a couple of weeks at VFL level to get his touch back, especially whilst our current back 7 are fit and playing great footy.

His 20 is like 3 flat I think. Walsh/Murph pace. You can bet his 100 is like 11.3ish

Keep in mind you can get really windy conditions down in Tassy.

Might be hard to win aerial contests. Could play into Hawthorn's hands if we go into the match too top heavy.

Think you’ll find Jack and Charlie are similar height.
Charlie is more athletic, Jack is (much) smarter.
Shouldn’t really matter which one plays, it’s more about the system, delivery into the fwd 50 and leading patterns of the 4 talls, whichever makeup we go with.
I’d be happy to keep it as is, give Charlie another week off, get him cherry ripe for Norf.
Jack can also go back if required.
Cunners in for Polson is a no brainer, Willo for LOB in a week or 2.

Thought JSOS's link up play going forward was exceptional. to me he's locked into best 22 until further notice.

with that said, the bulldogs was a game where we were well on top so everyone came aboard the gravy train. the real test will be which players join cripps and walsh as the standout players when we're not having things all our own way. that's the challenge for levi, JSOS, gibbons, SPS, murphy et al going forward.
