Rnd 7 BF Votes Melbourne v WCE

5. Darren Glass - simply superb effort on Neitz. Please stay fit Glassy! If only he had been in from the start of the season our position on the ladder may well have been different.

4. Michael Braun - continued to be one of our best performers when away from home

3. Ben Cousins - as someone else said, the only one who EACH week plays for four hard quarters

2. Brent Staker - good game from Stakes - now he needs to do it again next week

1. Wirra - much more damaging further up the ground

Mentions to: Nicoski, Selwood and Doogs. And Gaspar - getting better each week but will take a few more to reach match fitness (anyone calling for him to be dropped, needs their head examined in my opinion

5. Braun: tried hard all day
4. Kerr: excellent first half, was off the ground for big parts of the second half.
3. Jones: 19 disposals of his debut game, hard at the ball.
2. Selwood: I like the way this kid plays, I can see a big future for him.
1. Glass: This was his best game for the eagles I have seen him play. 2 years ago at a game against the demons at Optus Oval he was taken off Neitz because David Neitz was brushing him aside too easily.

Unlucky: Staker. I have been critical of him in the past for not going hard at the ball, so I was pleasantly surprised to see him going hard at the ball. Still needs to put a bit more muscle on and experience. But I can see now why he is rated by the match committee.

Big dissapointment:
Kasey Green: I don't think he has enough talent and he should leave way for some of our youngest to start getting experience. The kick to the ankle of the Melbourne player towards the end of the game was very low. I hope he gets video reported and gets a week for such a low act.

Jeremmy Humm: He attacks the ball hard, and seems to be quite tough, but again I don't think he has enough talent.

Andrew McDougall: Unlike the previous 2, this fellow has lots of talent, but doesn't seem to work hard enough, so the dissappointment is the biggest.

Sampi worries me, his skills are sublime, and that mark was worth a vote, but he fades out too often and too easily.

Too true. I also note that he rarely chases back onto his man when we lose posession and they rebound. He's brilliant but needs to give 100%

I still don't know if this is a close out for the votes but here is my opinion.

5 Glass . It's been said but geez if we had this effort against Port Adelaide and Essendon maybe we would be sitting better. He makes our backline a stronger unit and considering the amount of time the Melb forwards had it in their forward line they did well ( except who ever we put on Robo)
4 Cousins Great 4 quarter effort and holds the ball in the tackle and can still find a target in trouble minus a couple of efforts.
3 Nickoski Great perfromasnce from a new player. Looks settled, plays with composure can extracate himself and good skills. Played beyond his experience.
2 Cox kept us in the game. The umpire should of awarded Cox about 7 free kicks as at most contests the oppo placed their arm in his head. Faded in the last and no suprise Melb thumped us in this quarter. Reason why I still gave him votes was because Cox faded after that big hit and not from effort.
1 Kerr Just getting better and better. His disposal used to be a big problem but his getting it right.

Couldn't give Braun a vote even though his work ethic is sensational. He turns the ball over too much and doesn't deliver good enough to give the forwards an advantage. PLEASE STOP KICKING LEFT FOOTED.
Loved Jones game and I thought that Selwood was even better.
I think that the club is going forward but without the Gardy we are going too struggle.
Definately missed Fletch. Might of just been the one star we needed to of beaten Melb before the fourth quarter came.

Positive for Melb. They now don't just have Robo and Neitz. Young Davey can play. But more importantly is JARED RIVER. Geez can this guy play.

Nicoski - Another impressive display in the back half. Probably tries to do a little too much with the ball, but hey, at least he is trying to get some run out of defence and create attacking thrusts

He needs to learn to go with his first option, you don't have time to think in the back line, there were a couple of times he turned it over on their 50 metre line cause he was unsure of how to dispose of it.

Kerr: battled hard all day.
Scampi: always looked dangerous, and how can we forget that mark.
Nicoski: showed a lot of class and poise .
Staker: presented well and provided a target up forward.
Glass: did the job required. Thank god hes back.
