If Dow comes in and plays Murphy’s high-half forward role I’ll be annoyed enough to complain about it on the internet.

Two specialist small-forwards is something we haven’t had for the past 5 years - hope it works.

Interested to see how we structure up with Parks and Stocker in the back-half.

Our development is horrendous. Look at our list..outside of no brainers like Walsh weiters and Harry our young picks have been busts....I'm sorry just don't see dow lob or SPS ever coming elite....were we unlucky....other clubs would've picked them early....or have we failed them??

And they are a sh*t side. Done nothing all season and after 1 game in the reserves against poor opposition and he is back?? sh*t selection. He will be lucky to get 8 touches and 1 tackle tomorrow
Brisbanes reserves were on a 21 game win streak and their club has less injuries by a mile than us... 's**t side' lol.

Personally. I think that the plan would always have been to rest a player like Murphy after 6 games or so, I don't believe he was dropped, he wasn't in the worst couple of players last week.

Williams has had injury concerns for a while now, I see no reason to doubt that he's out due to injury.

Eddie will be scheduled for a rest soon too, this will be his 5th game? Unfortunately, our injuries would have played a bit of havoc with plans on how to manage the older players this year, I'm sure.

An MCG clash against Essendon is not a game you would rest a required player in.

If Williams has an injury, why report it as general soreness?

Murph was definitely one of the worse as far as leaving his opponent unattended.

I just think there were worse than Murphy and clubs play ducks and drakes all the time, how they publicly label an injury isn't always the full story.

If they were dropped they'd be named in the reserves, as simple as that for me.

If it's form related they can't get better by not playing, the more I think of it, the more that I think Murph's having a rest and Williams is being managed before the two games after this one where we will need players with a bit more polish. We will also hopefully have some better players back from injury.

Also, Essendon at the MCG in this year's context is a game a required player could afford to miss rather than potentially missing games against the Bulldogs or Melbourne.

What would be the point of dropping a player if they don't have to earn their way back through the VFL?
Doesn't make sense.

It does if you don't want to embarrass your senior players or highly paid recruits.

Mind you, if we lose without them, I wouldn't mind betting we get an 'I told you so' from the coach. Let's just hope that Dow and Owies in particular, go okay.

I wonder if the MC have become tired of the defensive efforts and feel the only way to get through to them is to give them a spell?
The media have certainly turned up the heat on a few of our guys recently, specifically with regards to defensive efforts. It is definitely costing us games, and hopefully a bit of a wake up to the entire group.

We are not in a position to be resting players. Don’t kid yourself, we ain’t that good

There comes a point where you don't have a choice with older players or those with niggles. Better they miss this week than next week or the week after. Of course this is all speculation on all of our behalves cause we don't know.

These sort of players have got nothing to learn from playing in the VFL. Murphy is not getting better playing at that level. He is what he is at this point of his career.

They aren't holding Williams back for his polish against the Dogs or Dees. He has absolutely butchered the ball this year. We have a better draw in the second half of the year so if we can win this, we can still recover from 3-5. Resting players and risking 2-6 doesn't make sense to me either.

We will see..

Yes, I imagine that we will, at the end of the day neither of us knows the real story. all we can do is come up with possible reasons for what happens.

I’ll give Harry as being a relative success with our development, one Bolton didn’t just play every week like the others.

Cant wait to read some of the back peddling posts tomorrow after we beat the Bombers.
Beating the Bombers will be nothing to get exited about...no back peddling required!
How about a 10 goal win.
3 or 4 wins in a row.
Beating a top 4 team with spirit
Leading from start to finish in some games and winning comfortably.
Getting into the 8 and staying in there.
Winning a final.

A scrappy win here and there against lowly teams doesn't cut it for me I'm afraid.

The fact the match committee have ‘liked’ and ‘accepted’ the games of Newnes, Gibbons and Cottrell compared to SPS and Murphy is fascinating. But ok - Murphy is injured.....
I don't really understand what you disagree with but sure.
The senior boys have been given opportunity to correct their efforts. As they should.

Now we see the axe starting to swing. Hopefully won't be too much more if the rest pull their finger out and we start to kick a bit of arse out there.
We'll see.

Fyi no-one is saying those boys starred either.
I'd say this has been an issue longer, that's all.

When it was still possible to make finals last year we stunk it up I don't expect same old players attitude to change if we go 2-6
