Today was more about our skill errors becoming turnovers. Most were midfield, which killed our inside 50's

blaming skill errors isnt correct IMO.

we got destroyed in clearances and you could tell in the 1st qtr we were ****ed. Collingwood were effortlessly moving the ball through the ground while we battled.

our midfield were totally and utterly cooked.

Poor skills were a massive reason why we couldn’t move the football. They shut down the short kicking game and we didn’t have the skill to move the football in another way.
Yes they smashed us in the midfield as well which was a factor.
We did actually defend the ground pretty well before half time.

Collingwood are just well coached and drilled.

They had just as many skill errors as us, but their structure allows for them and punished ours. They were always front and centre when required, always a handball away when pressure came. Had proper kickin set plays that had them in their 50 in no time.

Compared to our kickin plan of short to Archie on the boundary, give and go, long to wing contest.

We are at our best when we can slow posesses in the back half and work the ball up, Collingwood didn't allow it, they blocked the kicking options and forced us to handball under pressure or dump kick which was dire either way

panic handballs when not even under pressure. Collingwood just sat back and waited for us to **** it up.

Not even any structure to the handballing. Just "get it the **** away from me".

The low IQ mob delivers yet again.

Hand-balling, particularly in the midfield, was largely guys under pressure transferring said pressure to the next teammate rather than doing something constructive with the ball.
I.e., crap yourself and pass it on.

This may not have been obvious if you were at the game, but watching on TV, it was quite clearly a skill gap, and then it probably got a bit out of control at the end when the intensity went out of it. Collingwood were just cleaner, it’s pretty simple.

There were plenty of times where we either had first hands on the footy and missed the receiver with hands, or were trying to work it around and find the free and the one handball or kick that would have got out of the loop missed the target.

These passages go from ball retention at the very least, if not free and clear and running forward with the footy.

When Caddy kicked his second, we were 9 points behind. It’s actually a bit ****ed how quickly it was allowed to fall apart.

Collingwood are bang average (can only see them getting wins against WC and Port the next 8 weeks) and about to fall off a cliff yet we made them look good and not only kick 100 points for the first time in ages but go well past it.

Brisbane should flog us next week but they're the best side of the last 3 years and it's expected.

Unfortunately this squad isn’t even VFL standard - in one half of football they gave up more than 100 points to Collingwood when the pies haven’t even managed 90 points for a total game for many consecutive weeks. This club is complete amateur hour, Scott and Welsh are busts and the jury is out on Rosa and Innes but they don’t have a lot of runs on the board either. Disgrace.

Agree re the short kicking game but I felt like it was shut down more in the first quarter and a half. Their pressure caused a lot of skill errors I thought. They seemed very willing to turn it into a scrap early and then we seemed to be jumping at shadows and unwilling to chase.
Parish and Langford stuck out to me, especially Parish, back to jogging after a decent couple of weeks.

I don’t see all the praise for Roberts. I was at the game. He is just an accumulator. So many one/twos. Majority of his disposals are just junk. McGrath always looks panicked, in turn the players around him panic and to end Parish just shirked a few contests. I know I’m not out there hitting the packs but if you are and getting paid good money to do so…. You go

With May’s injury looking like a MCL, who replaces him?
How is McMahon doing in the vfl?
I'd bring in Cox before McMahon.

Oh I saw it. I called it out in the game thread, it was the worst 40+ disposal game I've ever seen. It's just free man easy disposal footy that ultimately looks good on the stat sheet but does nothing. Plus he doesn't defend a man, he defends space. Granted, he's not alone in that, but it was more glaring today, especially in the second half.

So 8 years ago Woosha went to the board and said we needed more defensive minded players. The board said No, well done guys, was Dodo blowing wind how good our list was? Now we are in 2026 and near 40 yr old Pendelbury and co were avoided like they had full body clap. Dodoro era players (just see our defenders for instance) are terrible one on one competitive, and like 2018 we still suck at sticking tackles. Seems when the game plan falls apart we see these blowouts.

Are we gaining anything by still playing disinterested “senior” spuds over youth when we are copping 70 points beltings anyway? May as well get some time into the younger guys and see if they can be part of our future and give them some experience in the “big time”
