We were so slow coming out of the backline and went wide which plays into the Pies hands.

We need a quick running backman more than we need a Bailey IMO.

Prior not quick enough.
Pies set up the ground that way, so a quick running back probably does not solve it. We have a few young backs who like to run and move the footy. Problem is we simply have to bide our time while they develop.

Someone who could break through and make position 50-70 metre mark would be nice. Nobody is moving. Agree, the Pies are well drilled and block the corridor but we lack a line breaker.

Kicking 20m to deep pocket then long down the line, esp with Cameron there, is awful.

Redman is probably supposed to be that guy. Sadly he only shows up every couple of years (injuries aside). His best years have been in contract years and the rest have been putrid (there may have been 1 non-contract year that was passable).

Poor fixturing, weather, travel, 5 day break - contributing factors to a loss for any rebuilding team perhaps. But a 77 pt loss - that’s just poor skill and execution and a lack of effort, not to mention a lack of leadership to stay with them for another 2 qtrs.
Coll are a well drilled side but they were gettable.

We lack a game changer. That is why Pendlebury is such a great player. It is why Nick Daicos changes games even if he does often rack up a lot of possessions that do not more the needle. The fact is he just keeps working to get to space or to get the handball.
It is what we really wanted Redman to be, but he has never found that consistent level.
Does not have to be a defender. it could easily be a quality midfielder.

Do you have any thoughts on why Sharp isn't being played in the midfield much at all?

Thought it was a waste bringing him in and hardly play in the guts.

I do not think he should have just been thrown in straight away, but I do question the fact he has not been given some centre bounce time. You would hope he is getting more of a go in the middle as the season rolls on. I do not see it as absolutely important as far as the long-term picture goes. We know he can play in the middle so getting some learning on the job as a forward is good for his overall development. So, a waste of time? not for me but would like to see him start getting a few on ball runs. A lot of what we are doing now is not about what is happening now.
It may seem a bit odd to say this, but they do actually have to work out what level parish can get to now after spending most of the last 3 years playing average foty due to injury.
The pressure will be in Scott in the back half of the season to make a few changes if a few of the guys who are now injury free do not come back to the level.

Firstly, love Pendles. Champion of the game and glad he’ll be the VFL/AFL games record holder.

Secondly, don’t be too dejected. We know our senior players have never been consistent collectively for a full year (with the exception of Merrett, even individually they can’t put in consistent performances year after year). Just watch our youth to see it’s not all doom and gloom - just frustrating and we’ve all been more than patient for 20 years. We’ve got the best group of young players we’ve had in that 20 year period. Another high draft pick this year and Bewick the following. We nail these drafts and bring and trade for the missing pieces and we’re cooking with gas.

The disappointment is solely because I allowed myself and talked myself into believing we were going to win the game.

Rookie move! Haha

Do you think Roberts can be that player?

Collingwood obviously sees Anzac Day as a real benchmark event and something to win at all costs and show the Anzac spirit. Winning this is an absolute non-negotiable on their fixture. For us it’s more about enjoying the occasion and “seeing what happens”

I expect quite a few. This is the worst Essendon side for 30 plus years.
Just using that to segue into a completely different topic, is there a total salary minimum that must be paid out to players? And, as we have the worst list in the competition by the length of the straight, does that mean we have to overpay our spuds to reach the minimum level? Must be a good wicket for talent-free and perma-injury players at Essendon 😁

my head said Pies, my heart said we'd be a real show after the past fortnight but it's still unbelievably embarrassing to have served that up.

At least we had I think 9 or 10 playing there first ANZAC game and a lot who still only have played infront of 40-50K on most occasions.

Pendelbury is unbelievable and obviously enjoys kicking our ass, he's often best 3 for them and I'm sure everyone would do the same but I hope we throw and assistant role at him and hope he's up for the challenge!

having collingwood score over 100 points against us is just flat out embarrassing. They have one of the worst forward line in the comp

We were due a bad loss after good effort for 3 weeks. Also bulldogs and suns just going atm, so our form looked slightly better than it was.

Those sides didn't bring the sort of pressure that makes us turn to water, the magpies did.

Disgraceful effort after qtr time

Gee we drop our head quickly

Too many private school guys who have zero resilience

Drop Mckay and make a statement. Dont care if theres no Ridley, those efforts were terrible and he blames being beaten up field too quickly

Perkins Setterfield VFL midfield wouldve gone better
