Do you have any thoughts on why Sharp isn't being played in the midfield much at all?

Thought it was a waste bringing him in and hardly play in the guts.
Certainly last qtr we shouldve had both Robey and Sharp in their a fair bit

Thats my only criticsm

Cannot have a captain with his panicky handballs and so unpredictable to team mates.
3rd quarter we went back to the BS game plan of last year. Get a point kicked on us, McGrath went for the kick in/kick in receive in the back pocket, terrible handball/ run into traffic leading to terrible disposal, turnover and score. McGrath should never be allowed to kick in or receive the kick in ever again. Pies took away the centre of the ground and we stupidly just played right into it and devolved into our 2025 gameplan

What has amused me for years now is when we have yet another goal kicked against us and the defenders all huddle up for a brief team meeting.
WTF could they say to each other at these constant on ground catch ups ?
“ **** ! My bad”
“ **** they’re good “
“ **** we’re shit”
“ sorry “
“****ing midfield “
“It’s too hot”
“It’s too cold”
“ Benny ! Are you listening “
“ see you soon”

They probably just talk about why their midfield is playing no help defense for them.

"I wonder which bartender is on today at gimlet?"

This may not have been obvious if you were at the game, but watching on TV, it was quite clearly a skill gap, and then it probably got a bit out of control at the end when the intensity went out of it. Collingwood were just cleaner, it’s pretty simple.

There were plenty of times where we either had first hands on the footy and missed the receiver with hands, or were trying to work it around and find the free and the one handball or kick that would have got out of the loop missed the target.

These passages go from ball retention at the very least, if not free and clear and running forward with the footy.

When Caddy kicked his second, we were 9 points behind. It’s actually a bit ****ed how quickly it was allowed to fall apart.

that's why i think labeling them as skill errors is misleading. It makes it sound like we have the same level of skill/talent, we just made errors.

Skill gap is a far better phrase.

Collingwood hit the post like 6 times lol. It really should have been a 100 point loss.

They obviously created more chances, and like I said, the dam wall absolutely broke, but in the first half it was a pretty even, scrappy affair both ways. The standard was pretty shit in the first half, I think even Collingwood supporters would agree.

It doesn't change the result but on the basis of how we have been moving the ball in the last 2 and a bit games we convert some of those nice clean exits and clearances into at minimum, some deep forward entries and not just leave the ball on the ground in the middle third of the ground for the oppo to pick up and run off with it.

Personally I think a week is enough time to get up for a footy game especially this one. Problem is our senior players aren’t that good collectively. Individually they will play like word beaters every once in a while but they can’t seem to bottle it. You expect the younger ones to be a bit patchy.

I would have liked to see a couple of ex premiership players drafted in like north have done at the expense of some of our underperforming leaders. Someone who plays with fair physicality. Maybe they tried on they didn’t want to come? If that was a club decision then I think that was a mistake.

At the end of last season everyone inside and outside of Essendon was basically convinced that the fitness staff employed by the club were responsible for a ridiculously large injury list.

Playing at Essendon was seen as walking straight into the ER as a patient.

They’ve asked around the past few years but no one has been interested aside from Goldy and Fiorini.

If we can spend the year relatively healthy and have the young guys show some flashes we might get lucky but I’d imagine most of these types of players would take more $$$ and play for Tassie.

Yeah we are not a destination club that’s for sure. I can’t help but envy the other clubs that bottom out but bounce straight back because they have those core older players that know what success looks like. Collingwood are one of those clubs.

You look at other clubs and you compare the value north are getting from a Parker or Barrass with Hawks to our own leaders on good money and you shake your head.

i tend to think that Vaccums don’t tend to last long. If your other processes are correct it empowers players doing the right thing the right way to be the respected voices in the locker room.

Problem is when that doesn’t happen. Which has been lots in recent Essendon history.

I think some coin at Rampe with a coaching role attached later would be good.

If your other processes are correct

Problem EFC has had is basically every single aspect of the club has been at best average, with most being poor, for about 25 years now.

When was the last time we looked to have top tier drafting, development, conditioning or coaching teams?

Noting that drafting does probably inform quite a bit about how the rest of the chain looks; if you draft poor aerobic runners, they struggle to develop the tank to reach AFL standard, struggle to deal with (and recover from) the training load, and limit what the coaching staff can do with them. If you don't have the cattle with the tank and the natural inclination to run hard defensively, it's going to be a challenge as the coach to have a team that runs hard defensively.

For a long time we kept changing everything except the recruiting department, so finally getting a new voice in there with Rosa will hopefully see a bit more change on how the rest of the areas look as well.

Looking at this game again, I think all our problems stem from a dysfunctional midfield mix and our core group of mature players playing mediocre.
We are playing exactly like our full strength parish, shiel, merret games. Too flippy floppy weak. Too easy to scare. Not effective.
Get setters or equivalent mature players in there asap. We need a big tall defensive mid.
Our defense wasn't great, but few other teams defenders could've done better with the amount of entries they faced.

Bigger issue is they all seem to lack confidence. All those losing matches is weighing is down. Fitness too , but prior qld match, new fitness regime likely culprit there.

Blah,blah,blah.
Exactly - Essendon fans are not goldfish.
We have heard this shit before - many many times.
Nothing changes!
Fk off with your deep analysis into how the game was lost - flipping change it on field while it is happening and you have a chance to actually do something about it.
Sick of this shit that comes out from the players everytime we put in a shocker - which is more common now, not less common.
If talking about it helped - it would be working by now.
