maybe I am being too blindly positive but I thought for long stretches of the game our defensive system actually did quite well despite the pies midfield getting on top.
Felt like we were forcing most of their entries to be shallow and to the boundaries which is why they had a lot of missed shots in the first 3 quarters. But by the end their leadership/better foot skills along with weight of numbers came to the fore, instead of taking the shots from the boundary they were patient and looked for more options deeper inside the 50.

We gave them a number of goals when the game was in the balance that just makes life easy for the opposition. Some of our guys don't have the concentration levels or IQ required.
  • Daicos to be free like that and kick their first.
  • McKay not watching the ball in the air but just chasing after their leading forward letting the ball go overhead to a Collingwood player behind for their second. Reid for instance would have read the ball slowed down to take the mark.
  • Leaving Maynard to get the Long handball and goal from long range.
  • Redmans pathetic effort letting Elliot kick one
  • No one putting body or marking Elliot to soccer the one on the line that 2MP tried punching through for a behind.

Collingwood don't give you anything like this.

This is just wrong.

We didn’t kick away because we don’t have the bodies, class or experience that Collingwood has. We didn’t go into our shells, we just don’t know how to kick on yet.

They should be beating us now. Just like when their era finishes in a couple of years time and our players are hitting their prime, we should be outclassing them.
Collingwood's era is finishing when the Daicos brothers hit their prime?

It's interesting. I see them dropping off like Richmond due to them topping up with Perryman, Houston, Membrey etc. Giving away picks and getting older to squeeze out another flag before Pendles, Sidebottom and co leave. But knowing our luck they'll just be like Geelong and keep kicking on.

I was thinking of this but then they nail quite a few later picks (look at Long atm), the Daicos brothers don't seem to get injured, there will be more fortunate F/S picks, then they will poach guys from elsewhere as well.

Shiel has been in good form and yesterday he was good again and did what he could defensively but his spot as the break out midfielder needs an upgrade in skill level.
As controversial as it may be, this is exactly why I'm not enamoured by Tsatas at this stage because we need to upgrade our current players in skill level. I don't have the stats, but we have to be one of the top teams in conceding scores from turnovers. I don't think we're too bad in defending scores from stoppages/centre bounces.

Rosa is going to have a big job this off-season because we cannot carry that many bad kicks and bad defenders.

Coliingwood is a big club, get to play with Nick Daicos, we're a big club, we play at home most of the year, we're a big club, we will overpay, we're a big club

thats what Pies do

Yep, a very attractive club for recruiters to work with. They will top up with a couple of A graders (eg Butters) and get some in the Draft. They also develop players well eg Long.

Pies like Geelong, rarely bottom out.

upon reflection, i think we did "fine" purely from the sense that we're historically pretty shocking at wet weather football, have a young side, have our 2 key rucks injured, and having key players returning from injury.

there's much that we still need to work on, however, the basis is there presently.

Collingwood are a destination club and will be able to keep trading in good players to support daicos brothers as they go through their career.

Train near the city, play consistently huge games at the MCG, lucrative from a financial point of view. Collingwood won't drop off after Pendlebury and side bottom retire.

Richmond would be the same, minus Daicos, which is one player.
