Didn't look nervous whatsoever and was keen to get involved in everything. Really liked what I saw from him tonight. What a debut. Looked like he belonged from the first bounce.

He has indeed. The Great Sidebottom will be returning, and probably Allan.Impressive first game, finds both space and the ball, obviously can run all day. Did not look overawed at all and linked up well.
What you hope to do when you get your first game, due to the misfortune of others (injury, illness), is make it bloody for them to leave you out the next week and that is certainly what the young man has done.

The old school surnames were usually in reference to someone's occupation or where they lived. Seems like Sidey's ancestors might have lived somewhere that could have been described as the side of a bottom perhapsWe're blessed to have a player with a surname: "Sidebottom". I mean seriously, who comes up with Surnames like that? It's very specific, but which side?
According to the internet it means ‘wide valley bottom.’We're blessed to have a player with a surname: "Sidebottom". I mean seriously, who comes up with Surnames like that? It's very specific, but which side?
He butchered the first 2 kicks, which is understandable as he's adjusting to the increased pace of AFL footy. He just looks a lot more assured and composed, and understands/executes his role presently better than Allan. I hope Allan improves, but at the moment, I would rather Steele on a wing as he doesn't second guess himself, is an elite runner, and has good skill.Played really solid. Liked his game. Saw he clocked #1 in km covered despite conceding more game time to everyone else.
Butchered it a little, but overall looked right at home. Competed really well. Looks like a player!
If you think Allan plays meekly when 100% fit, I'm not sure how you think he'd play whilst he was ill.He butchered the first 2 kicks, which is understandable as he's adjusting to the increased pace of AFL footy. This is not a slight on Allan, but feedback to him that he needs to act with more purpose on a footy field. He's not playing AFL footy to spectate, but to impact and if he doesn't 'wake up' and seize his opportunities, or others (like Roan Steele who has had to fight to be on an AFL list) will. I understand he was not well this week, but gee, a part of me also thinks - what would I have done if I got sick and just had a consistent run of AFL games as a 20 year old, in a team on top of the AFL ladder 2/3rds through the season (and a good crack at a flag)?
I believe I would have kept quiet and try to play through it - understanding professional sport is a ruthless industry. You can bag me for being old school, selfish or out of touch, but I'm not sure Ed is awake to the fact that he presents meekly on a footy field. There is no guarantee he will make it back into the AFL side, at least this year (which unfortunately for him, could be (a Premiership year).
Well done to Roan, amazing first effort. And to Ed, believe in yourself and get to work and build your legs and core strength, ask the Daicos boys to do touch drills, to improve your game and attack the next one you receive in the AFL with purpose and confidence.
