I ****ing hate on this board the way people always go on about how we’re no good because we’re inexperienced. It’s complete because time and time again it’s our most experienced players who let us down. The moment I knew we were ****ed in today’s game was when Vlastuin went to ground and they got it to Larkey for a goal in the final quarter. And don’t get me started on Tom Lynch, who was the worst player on the ground by so far it wasn’t funny. Not to mention Taranto, who sprayed it from 35 metres out.

Also, can someone PLEASE ban Balta from kicking less than 40m. His kicking efficiency inside 40m woulf have to be under 40%...

Didn’t get to watch the game, only followed the live scores and the game day thread. It seemed like same old same old where we didn’t convert pressure into points, were quite indisciplined, were too slow in attack and defence and let one of their spuds kick multiple goals.

Aside from the wtf first quarter norf seemed to be a level below us. At least it was close.

I'm not sure why everyone is getting emotional about the result. This game in the scheme of things means absolutely nothing. Both teams are rebuilding.

Both teams get draft picks at the end of the season. The future matters. Not the here and now.

Seriously, think about this game and this season in that context.

The game didn't mean nothing. It was a massive match for better draft picks, 1st round and second round.

Real close to being included above in my mind is Mansell. You can’t give away two down field free kicks in a 4 point loss and not be punished in my view. Dumb dumb dumb.

Need to fix our centre square and midfield mix. 14 - 4 centre bounce clearances to a bunch of spuds. 54-33 clearances and 40-29 from stoppage. I thought we brought Taranto and Hopper in to fix this issue but if anything it’s even worse than it was years ago. No one with speed plays in there and it’s such an obvious problem that no one has done anything about all year.

Clearances - in particular centre clearances (4 to 14)
So frustrating to always be trying to win the ball off half back rather than getting it into our forward line.

our midfielders are clueless at centre bounces. it's been the same for like 4 years

was two instances of Nank tapping it directly to them on the full and we still managed to loose those clearances

then the next one Nank just grabbed the ball and got the clearance himself because he knows anyone else is just gonna drop it or handball it to the opposition

mansell is the worst player in the afl

but hes a good player to have in the side when you dont want to win too many games to protect your draft pick

The difference was the missed shots at goals (Lynch, Campbell and Taranto) - All three shots were U12 standard. Then there is Mansell who really cost us the game with the undisciplined act off the ball. If I were Yze, I'd be dropping him for that act alone. Green should have been subbed halfway through the third, but Smith turned out to be useless as him anyway.

Midfield fought valiantly - I liked McAuliffe's game and Dow had good moments. Taranto faded. The continual contested ball suited our plodding style with our slower midfield. Looks like an area of improvement including the tackling. Banks is settling into the post Rioli running half back. We are too tall up forward, and with Green and Mansell completely out of form, we need to fix this asap - Hopefully the VFL has some smalls putting their hand up.

If I were Yze - I'd be asking why Lynch is continually receiving bad calls. Two clear marks not paid, and he was clearly held without the ball in the last 2-3 minutes. I'd also want clarification on the HTB interpretation - McKercher, LDU and Simpkin (twice) were spun 720 degrees before disposing = all good - But Ross 360 degrees is instantly paid against us.

Nank was massive - broke even with Xerri. Was an awesome battle to watch. Lalor clearly was the right pick.

Norf - Have 4-5 years head start on their rebuild and we only lost to them due to 3 poor sets shots. We will still get 2 X top 5 picks based on Norf's list - possibly another 2-3 games max are winnable for them.

Maybe rest Faull and bring in Blight a mid sized forward like Bauer - if fit and firing.

Out - Mansell, Green, Smith, Balta (Curfew?)
In - Whoever puts their hand up in the ressies - But Tresize deserves another opportunity.

Mansell does stuff like this way too often. If this is his absolute best after "absolutely dominating" preseason it shows he is the level of footballer we need to move on from. Campbell is far superior.

in his first game back he did a few massive kicks right over the congestion that led to goals and now it's gone again

To be sure, our experienced players had some poor moments. But I also saw a lack of composure and poor decision-making from our younger players in the last quarter. They’ll get better with more games.

hes exactly the missing piece we lack in the forward line, the natural crumbing opportunist small forward. our smalls all play like medium forwards. seth the closest we have.
