I don't particularly rate him as a player, but it's not something I've observed watch him that he squibs.
That's probably because he doesn't. He may miss a target by foot (or miss one by hand because his team-mates aren't quick enough to anticipate where he's going), but he never squibs it.

He's not Jayden Short.

Ross and Sonsie are two players who get thrown around position wise. Both are mids, now playing high half forwards.
And both would improve dramatically if played on the ball, or even on a wing. The problem is, I don't think we have anyone who can play that Lambert high half-forward role. Maybe Taranto?

Totally agree. The only thing I would say is we also need a bit of an outside player in the middle that can use the ball and hit targets, any 3 of Tarranto, Hopper, Dow and Macca aren't really going to provide that.
They could have given Sonsie a decent number of CB's on the weekend to find out if he could do it but they didn't.
In a couple of years that will be Hotton and hopefully someone like Seth Campbell can develop a bit of midfield time.
Banks is improving as well, maybe an option? Wasn't sure about him but I think the club is right in seeing the potential down the track. Tassie might be an issue.

Another draft to grab 2 high picks - a midfielder and another with elite speed and we're just about there.

A couple of years and a war chest - we grab a good ruck and an elite defender.

2028 we'll be around the mark for a good 5 years. F**k you CFL I can wait.

Flags between then will hopefully be Brissy, GWS, Gold Coast, and I couldn't give a shit about them winning it.

Which of Smiths games as sub convinced you he couldn't play
Funnily enough, I thought he could play because of a rare full game 2 week's ago. He did a really good job on Charlie Cameron and, guess what? He's dropped for Rioli and his 2 possies in the VFL.

The question is whether we left it a little late. Lynch is clearly labouring, and it'll take a couple of years for Faull and Armstrong to really fill that void.

But, looking back at recent drafts, it doesn't look like the quality was that strong. Brown over Van Rooyen - not that I was ever particularly in that camp - is looking a little different in light of our 2024 draft haul (and JVR's current form, albeit in a struggling Demons side with next to no help). Of those that would've been available to us, Logan Morris is probably the only one that would've been a good get. But I see that similar aggressive, competitive style in Faull. Like Morris, it'll just take a couple of seasons to really see it in full.
I think they were planning on get a free agent that never happened. Still doesn't excuse a plan B or C with a decent KPF draft pick. But then perhaps that is Ryan and he just hasn't come on as hoped yet.

oppos predictably saying way too much for Voss when Mansella has been suspended 3 weeks for going for the ball last year then 3 weeks this year for watching a saints player run past him into Lynch

Going by crowd numbers alone, not sure gather round was the success AFL media are projecting
It would have been something if it was, considering only half the games were at AO and the rest wouldn't have brought in anything close to 100,000 combined.

But we're talking about AFL media here. They really are a special kind of stupid.

The club used Ryan 2024 as Lynch replacement. He is a better ruck and the club are using him as Nank injury cover. The club have used Soldo, Ryan and even Miller as pure 2nd ruck when Nank rested.
Bauer & Kmac back up ruck vs Carlton. Port game Lukosius got injured early and didn't need 2 KPPs Blight went fwd & back up rucked well enough vs the likes of Cripps, Wines, Voss, Draper (Freo)

Lynch, Armstrong, Fawcett can't do it. Kosi KPP both ends and back up ruck.

Blight can thank Yze for having Balta forward cos it started his career last year.

He can kick a goal

When Balta returns he plays KPF & back up ruck.
Ok say you’re saying he’s now on the list as cover for Nank and the number one ruck spot only? I’ll wear that if the club is telling us he’s no longer a 2nd ruck/fwd option and never plays with Nank again.

I still question the three yr commitment to a bloke that’s shown very little at the level. Nothing personal I just don’t get it.

You're worried about pressure on spots for small forwards? Hotton will play a mid/fwd role but is injured. J Clarke plays that role and is injured. Mansell plays that role and is suspended. Alger will play that role and is a kid. Lalor will be a 60/40 mid-fwd and was injured. Then we have Campbell and Green.

So on the weekend there was literally 4 x players unavailable for a forward line role and another who is 5-games into his career and you're wondering why MRJ was picked?

We have small-medium forwards coming out of our wazoo....I honestly don't know if you're aware of the composition of our list..???
Alger and Hotton are both 6 ft and not at all small forwards. Clarke will probably play Sonsie's role.

Ideally we'd be rotating a Campbell-type through the midfield given our lack of pace and dearth of outside midfielders but we can't afford it given our lack of small forwards. And of course we can't promote a dashing HBF or a back-pocket because we don't have much of them either, only Short and Smith. Just huge holes all over the ground which makes it very hard for Yze to either throw the magnets around or enforce selection standards.

Blight has been playing forward lately and second ruck. He’s not required down back and his not a forward.

Balta is a ten times upgrade on blight
It's about long-term. So if the club has Balta, Gibcus, Trainor, Miller, Gray and Young as KPD options equal to or better than Blight and don't have faith in Ryan, they need to develop a 'swingman' who can ruck. And Blight shows more up forward than most of those guys and superior rucking skills.

Yep. Trainor will get his chance in a week and a half.

Side note, just saw the odds. Dees $1.35, us $3.22 😩
the bookies know we're their grand final
