I think your under estimating Lalor, but Hotton does look good.
Maybe, but I can see weakness in Lalor where I don't see any with this guy. Anyway hope they come good and healthy for a few years to come.

Haven't seen him on the injury list. If he is maybe Steely Green, still woudn't bring back Short, needs to play better than he did yesterday.
Yeah, I know Steely ran hard all day, deserves to come in for Alger, but you watch Short come straight in.

That wouldn't surprise me with selection at the moment, but a lot of Shorts disposals were just dinky little kicks & running out the back picking up easy kicks. Also a lot of sideways & backward delivery as well, which was frustrating to watch as it only gave Geelong time to flood up the ground.

So, exactly the same as what he does in the AFL team.

Heaps of positives tonight starting with our ball movement.
Always looked inboard first and backed our ourselves if it was on

Some very pleasing individual performances too
  • Huge break out game from MRJ, best game for the club by a mile
  • Same for Mansell, exceptional game
  • Tom brown got more of the ball, was more proactive and daring
  • Banks crushing, so reliable now
  • Campbell more of the ball since he’s hitting the middle a bit
  • Ross and Prestia great couple weeks in a row

Bads
  • Hugo soft as shit
  • Sonsie better but too timid
  • Balta “keep it simple stupid”
Prestia, what the flip game you been watching? His first two back for year were brilliant, last two rancid level

the big omission here is his team was packed full of quality kids already playing well and ours isn't.

Even before the drafts that brought us players like Cotchin and Martin, we had heaps of good kids like Lids, Foley, Raines, Jackson, etc. Sure some of them ended up being flashes in the pan like Dean Polo but in any given year we had several exciting young-guns (as in actually playing well, not merely highly seeded in the draft). And the rest of our players were mostly middle-aged like Newman and Richo.

What's our B&F going to look like this year? At a guess Banks and Campbell would be the only ones under 25yo getting into the top 10? By my reckoning we're many years away from having the same sort of profile Dimma started with, and with the compromised draft it's actually hard to get there at all.
You're not really remembering correctly

2006 Draft: Jack Riewoldt & Shane Edwards. Edwards first appearance in the top-10 of a B&F was 2010 (6th), his 4th season. Jack's first appearance in the top-10 was 2008 (he snuck into 10th), his second season.

2007 Draft: Cotchin and Rance. Cotchin's first appearance in the top-10 was 2010, his third season (7th). Rance's first top-10 was 2011, his 4th season.

2009 draft: Dusty & Grimes. Martin finished top-10 first year. Grimes first top-10 finish was 2015, his 6th season.

2011 draft: Brandon Ellis. First top-10 finish was 2014, his third season.

2012 draft: Vlastuin. First top-10 finish was 2015, his third season.

2015 draft. D. Rioli. First top-10 finish was 2019, his 4th season.

2016 draft. Bolton. First top-10 finish was 2020, his 4th season.

I rate Martin, Cotchin, Rance, Riewoldt, Edwards, Vlastuin, Grimes, Rioli and Bolton as our 9 x best flag players we drafted. And Ellis is in there as a first round selection.

So the ONLY one who finished top-10 in their first season was Dusty, and he was clearly a freak.

Then not a single other one of our elite players finished in the top-10 of the Richmond B&F until their third season (except Jack who snuck into 10th in season 2).

As I said, it's easy to look back with rose coloured glasses on the past, but to worry about our top-10 of the B&F in 2025 potentially not containing any of our 2024 draft class is just nonsense. In fact history tells you it's nothing to even remotely worry about if none of them are top-10 in 2026, let alone this year.

Yes, if none are top-10 in 2027 it will be a big worry. But I don't think there's any chance at all of that happening.

Dusty, Daicos, Scheezel & Ashcroft types are the absolute exception, not the rule.

I would definitely look at any offers. He's a liability at either end at the moment. If 2 first rounders were on the table...

I wonder if the Saints would be keen they need a tall defender desperately and if they bring in TDK for free might be prepared to slightly overpay in a draft sense for another key piece?

They might. Their first pick may be tempting.

I would do their first and third, with our fourth coming back next year, we'll need a half decent pick to match for Kellaway this year.

We could ideally then pickup Sharp, Fred, Lindsay and Kellaway which would be perfect for list needs and allow us a bit more flexibility with next years picks.

We’ve won 3, should of won 5 for the year so far. Cats were always gonna smoke us. The fact we put in some credible effort needs to be recognized.
When we have posters calling premiership heroes weak, a disgrace to the jumper, already calling for a coach sacking (they’re clearly no better than Carlton supporters or forget the years 1980 to 2000 in particular), it’s just a nonsense. We know the path we’re on. We’re gonna be shithouse next year as well. Not saying you’re any of the above, but we need some perspective on things. And i’m just not gonna tolerate the above to be honest.
It’s not all sunshine and lollipops. I get it. I really do. I lost my lolly last week as well. But, it’s where the list is at and club. Until we get a heap of these lads north of 50 games and 3 pre seasons, we hot more of the same coming.
Couldn’t agree more with everything you’ve said.
The thing that is eating me up the most, and has crippled every iota of enjoyment out of watching the Tigs, is these injuries to our young kids.
All well and good to want to get the next generation to 50 games. But we’ve lost so much development over the last 2-3 years to players who should be driving change through this club. And we’re left with the list cloggers and battlers every week, making the same mistakes week in week out.
With Lalor gone for the year, Alger likely out, no Smilie, Gibcus, Armstrong, there is very few shining lights. And the guys that are playing, are being asked to bear the load of far more senior players. Are they now at risk of being pummeled into submission? Ala Tambling? I’d hate for Faull and Sims to be cooked and injure themselves too. Just feeling super flat with the state of the club at the moment.

Got to embrace the tough times... its what made us such a force in the dynasty years. We are not a expansion team, we are not sydney, we are not Geelong so we dont get easy handouts.

Geelong wants new facilities? Its paid by the state government as they are a swing area in elections
Sydney wants a star forward? they get one as they "need to be good" for the NSW market
Say what you want about genetics but all the F/S players that are killing it, their dads were also guns. Our player from the 90's and 00's other than richo were trash or had daughters.

All that is to say the comp is not built for a club like Richmond, we have to do it the hard way and if we get it wrong then we have to repeat the rebuild process and not expect handouts.

Facilities aside I respect cats and pies perennial list build , they're both well organised, very well coached , to be always up there without academy pics I dips my lid , we need to challenge ourselves to bolster resources in right areas so we're always getting the pivotal decisions right

Yeah I just think Richmond are the type of club (I hope I'm wrong) that suffer for years and years until they don't and then cash in on flags. We're not the Geelong/Sydney type where we're consistently good.

I'm not worried about the most recent draft (yet), I'm worried that we have 2 players from 2018-2024 who might make the top 10 B&F. We frankly have far worse youth (defined as under 25) than most non-rebuilding teams.

We had 5 top 30 picks in 2021 and we've got one player playing well out of it. Judging by how hamstrung Lalor and Smillie are we could easily see the same problems with the last draft. Realistically half your draft players are going to be duds on average, our batting percentage is even worse recently, and we need to find virtually a whole team.

My view is we're probably on a trajectory where we ask for a priority pick 6 years from now. Because we're going to enter the compromised drafts about where WC is now (another team which were reluctant to pull the bandaid off post-GF success).
