I'd be rapt with that line up but I'd have Fawcett as FF or in there somewhere but we can't continue with 3 big forwards
Yeah good call, I guess I’d probably have Fawcett and Faull. Faull had a stinker on Sunday but, to be fair, it’s a tough gig for a young key forward in a shit side, and another day it might have been him getting out the back and Fawcett manhandled instead.
I’ll back Faull to become a good player for us, he’s very competitive and runs all day.

Right now I'd prefer Shanahan over all of Faull, Armstrong and Sims also. It doesn't mean this is what I'd prefer in 2028, so I'll hold fire on panicking at this very early stage.

Whilst you may have wanted Shanahan, let's not pretend Faull/Armstrong/Sims over Shanahan was any big surprise, as it wasn't'. Armstrong was rated highest, and Faull/Sims/Shanahan were very much all projected to fall somewhere in that 16-30 range.

In U18's Faull had a delayed start and ended up kicking 27-goals in 11-games, including 4 and then 5 in 2 x finals. Shanahan kicked 23-goals in 11 games. Armstrong kicked 27-goals in 10-games.

As for Sims....in just his 4th game in 2025 against GWS he had 13 disposals (8 CP), 7 marks (3 contested), 6 SI's and looked fantastic. So he looks like a terrific prospect as a ruck/fwd but injury has halted him.

Anyway...they were all lineball calls and there's still lots to play out.
i was there that day at Giants and Sims looked great except for the fact it looked like he had never kicked a ball before in his life

he fought and competed well for sure

Watched the 1st and 3rd quarters again to better understand why we lost so badly against a pretty average GWS side.

In the 1st quarter our skills were very poor, particularly our small and mid-sized defenders, who were disgraceful with their kicking skills. The worst offenders were Trainor and Short. Poor ball handling was best captured by Sonsie dropping a simple chest mark on the wing, then he was under pressure and was forced into a dump kick around the corner. You’ve got to be able to execute basic skills. There’s no point going on about Short kicking the ball straight to Hogan 20 meters out.

However, what was more damming was the complete lack of intensity and effort from our defenders in that first quarter. The main culprits were Brown, Short and Trainor.. There were multiple occasions where Brown either peeled off a contest, pulled out of a contest or was tentative in his attack. He made Brandon Ellis look like a hard ball nut. The coaching staff needs to give him a blast, it just not good enough, you can be Sam Lalor’s best mate at the club, but you’ve got to earn people’s respect and trust. That’s not negotiable.

While I disagree with Yze using Ollie Hayes-Brown as a reason for our poor start in the first, he was given a lesson in centre square tap work by Madden in that quarter. However, to his credit he turned it around and in doing so, showed real character and soul. I would say he’s not at Nank’s level and I’m not convinced he’ll get there. I view Nank as a warrior, but not necessary an “A” grade ruckman.

There were two main reasons why they kicked away in the last 9 minutes in the 3rd. The first is Luke Trainor. The kid gave away multiple free kicks, turned the ball over by foot and failed to nail a simple tackle that resulted in a GWS goal. Really not good enough

The other reason is both how poor our forward setup is and the lack of experience and quality in our forward 50. Compare Hogan, Stringer & Cadman with Jonty, Fawcett and Lefau. Jonty is going to be great Tiger player unless we kill his confidence through this rebuild. I like Fawcett and the fact he can get on the end of it, but Armstrong seems to be ahead in the pecking order. Not all of GWS’s forward entries were great, but their tall forwards either marked it or brought it to ground and a small forward attacked the contest and got a shot on goal. Our small forwards seems to get sucked into the contest and don’t have any time or space to work in. We seem to scramble the ball forward, hoping to manufacture a goal from nothing.

thats the problem mitchell is genuine and yze is an imposter we can all see that
Sam Mitchell was a gun Hawks player. 300 games 4 flags. Hawks assistant coach for a bit.

Mitchell has the licence to meet Oppo players.
Yze is an outsider, newbie.

Hawks took burge off us. 23. That killed us

Left ooze with Meehan and serpell. Lynch played that little the class of 24 boys didn't know who he was.
The list strategy of guns and lots of role players. Has left nothing but role players.

On paper we dusty in 24. Cooked. Peak Richmond with Gale, Peggy, cotch and Dimma is a pale imitation now.

From CEO to captain . Prestia runnin Richmond man kulcha BS. The idea was to be like the swans bloods culture

Failed miserably ..
They're back in the finals.

Dunne wants flags in 5 years. He dismanted the AFLW program.

Best analysis of last week’s game and who we should change for this week’s game. 10/10.
Would read again.

Yes, all good points. The average supporter though is incredibly impatient and wants to win now and for every kid to have break out games immediately.

Feel as though some coaching instruction might help him a bit. Basically the advice has to be to avoid wrestling at all where possible because he's not yet big enough or strong enough. Get on the move and if you think you are out of position, don't try and mark it, try and spoil it.

No Jacob Hopper (managed). Yze playing the long game so Hopper will be cherry ripe come finals.
It will be a very, very long game if Ryan and Ralphsmith are in the side every week.

Bit different to my analysis of the first 5 goals... can't remember which thread I put it into but do agree with the poor skills. Combine that with some juvenile decision-making (Trainor not recognising that the other defender had Hogain covered and choosing to make front on contact) and it makes it tough.

Our midfield is experienced enough to be able to rove to either ruck (ours or GWS). Their setup was simply exploited by GWS and lazy midfield movement.

Definitely agree with the forwards inexperience being a big factor.

Ryan and Ralphsmith both named in the starting 18.

Are they taking the piss?
Do clubs name the line up or just the squad and the media piece it together?

I was under the impression that the last 3 named on the bench are usually the emergencies (for Sunday games). In which case Retschko will debut but OHB will be omitted. If that's true then he may take Sonsie's wing rotations and Sonsie will take some of Hopper's CBAs?

The big thing I took from this is that we don't have to watch Hopper this week. Can't see Dion playing 3 games in 12 days either so he'll either miss Dees or WCE.

Long game? Or long season? Nank will be back soon. Not sure Hugo comes straight back though, unless it's to help free up Sonsie to have a crack inside... which I'm not sure is the answer btw but prefer it to Hopper.

He's named in the starting 18. He'll play.

It gets worse.

Ryan is in the starting 18 too.
That I have caught up with. Puzzling would be an understatement.

Bringing back a guy straight away he was poor and more importantly, undisciplined costing at least 2 momentum sapping goals, doesn't send a great message.

OHB was fare more convincing on debut than Ryan was all those years ago.

As stupid as it sounds I'd be more ok with both of them playing than OHB being dropped (although I don't think it'd be great for team balance).
