Poor day for us today. Our midfield totally exposed, Taranto still not right after injury, Hopper useless, Prestia even worse and Ross ineffectual as usual. The collective lack of pressure from our midfielders was staggering and their lack of intent/ability to lay effective tackles was horrendous, time after time Norf would just walk through tackles. That a midfield line coach/senior player allow an opposition player to get 54 possessions is laughable and shows the depths we've fallen to.
Really have to call out some of the weak efforts by players today, Sonsie closing his eyes going for a mark and repeated failure of attacking the ball and losing the contested ball. Not the only one Ralphsmith also in that boat and wonder what message that sends to younger players. Sure that Sonsie will be delisted unless they panic as they did with Ryan and hand out an extension who by the way was at Williamstown today walking his dog. Bad there too, not much coming through and I think Alger might be a little overrated. I know there are some injuries but both seniors and VFL efforts today were listless and uninspiring. Can we please poach an opposition ruckman with some idea of ruckcraft, there are some around who can't games because the number one ruck is entrenched. I don't rate OHB, Colina or Ryan and have my doubts about Sims.

Playing the blame game is over simplifying the situation. Every club has injuries, some more than others. Young players are usually more prone and 3 of those 5 players above are 1st or 2nd season. Mansell has been good again in his 2nd season as a forward. Playing him in the midfield really only works if we have 2 of him as he's proven that he is a good forward. MRJ has improved significantly playing around the midfield and spending more time up the gropund. Definite tick there to our fitness staff and coaches.
Hopper and Taranto have been fit for pretty much the entire season so give them their due. They were crap today but have had excellent seasons. Prestia slow start to season but has stayed on the park right through 2nd half of the season and been decent. Given the injuries to some of the above, I'm grateful we had Prestia, Taranto and Hopper to carry the load all season. Having said that, players aged 29yo plus usually either plateau or start to drop off. I'm sure our list managers and coaches know this. Our future improvement relies on a big group of current 18-22yos coming through the system together over the next 6 years + draftees, rookies and selective trades.
It not the young cubs that worry me.

This doesn’t take into account any free agents or trades we complete across the next few seasons.
It was a poor loss. We clearly didn’t come to play. It was Norf’s Grand Final, and other than Larkey they were basically full strength.
Norf and the Aints are experts at late season wins that catapult them to nothingness. We used to do the same … remember 4 wins in 5 and ‘unleash the Geisch’? Or late wins under Plough that inspired us to get Cousins as we thought we were ‘close’. Or any number of 9ths …
What I remember is losing the last game of 2016 by 125 points …
Seriously, if anyone is placing great stock in this performance as meaning anything they need to calm the truck down.
And lost 3 x games by under a goal. If anyone had have said we’d be within a few points of 8 x wins they’d have been strung up.
A sh*t performance today. It Literally means zero in the grand scheme of things, particularly with 15 on our injury list, North at nearly full strength and Vlastuin injured.
Honestly means nothing except pick-2 and pick-3.
