Load up the bus. Back to QLD we go. This time can we pay some escorts to pole dance in the lobby and hire a kebab truck ffs?
Home games at Metricon. Fully fit players and better form leading into the finals. Meet Cats at the Gabba in the GF again. Down by 15 points at halftime. Dimma inspires the boys with one the all-time great speeches. The 3peat complete. Dusty a 4th Norm Smith. AFL media and BF oppo boards officially broken. Salt levels peaking. Natural order restored. Think I've read this story somewhere.

Coaching is a team effort in any club.
For sure, but the relative contributions of the different members of that team will be different in each club. Clarko is always considered the tactical genius behind Hawthorn, I’m not sure Dimma is generally considered to have been such a strong driver of Richmond’s tactics.
You can’t say a certain trait is attributed to anyone person.
Not sure about that. Dimma himself in press conferences attributes credit where credit is due, and my memory is that he spoke about the midfield coach last year doing the work to modify our clearance set up from the Brisbane final to the Port one, and again at half time in the GF. Of course Dimma has final say and has to put it all together, but clearly some assistants are better and more influential than others

Is Clarko the tactical genius or is that what you are lead to believe? Hawks have gone backwards since the loss off Fagan, Beverage, Hardwick and that clown that went to Carlton.
Which is precisely my point. Dimma is very good at attributing credit where it is due. Never once have I heard Dimma go “our assistants stuffed that up” but your right he did go the other way. That tells me everything you need to know about him as a coach.

The last few losses have been where our midfield was torn apart. Our game style revolves around our midfield's ability to apply pressure and break from contests. Get some guys back and play some less high end oppo midfields and we can turn 7-5 and challenging for top 4. The key for us is to build back into that pressure unit whilst adapting to the ability to teams this year play on from a free/mark and so run through our defensive set up.

Our game plan is a little off / severely affected by the rule changes. Players are injured or in patchy form.

We usually have a high training load and heavy learning focus in the first half of the season. This brings us home hard. We look exactly like 2019 and 2020 so far in this way.

So I'm waiting for around round 15 before panicking. We're in around the right spot. We've been robbed of a couple of wins by umpiring and injuries. We've also been torn apart a couple of times. However, we also have had a tradition of when our game plan falls apart it does so spectacularly. Right now we are behind where I want us to be, but not too much. It's too early to place the premiership crown on anyone. may premiers are rarely September premiers.

Well I don’t know what went on behind the 4 walls at Hawthorn,, I’m just repeating the conventional wisdom. It’s possible those assistants were the brains behind Clarko, but whenever Clarko is spoken about it’s his tactical nous that gets mentioned, so I presume that has some basis. Don’t think you can read too much into Hawks decline and the loss of those assistants - their team is just garbage now.

you are spot on about Dimma handing out credit but not blame though. Maybe that clown (Bolton) was the real tactical genius at Hawthorn, but without any other good coaching attributes. Who knows.

Head coaches get a lot of blame and praise - IMO it’s whole coaching panels that should get it. Assistants play a massive role a lot of the time.

100% agree

I worry that the midfielders we're getting back might suffer from a lack of match fitness. I think we'll drop one of the next two and be 6-6 at the bye. From there things will be harder but we can still make the 8. I'll back us to win the flag from anywhere in the 8 if we're fit.

One of the many things I love about this club is how we never panic and rush any injured players back in to the team. To the contrary I reckon we usually give them at least an extra week at 100% before they come back just to be sure. Means we get fresh players back with good conditioning and confidence in their bodies, always play it well our medicos.

Houli received a vote in the coaches award. So he was seen as top 5 or so players on the field last week. He isn’t getting dropped
If I was Chris Fagan, I would've given Houli a vote as well, was one of the best for Brisbane....

*slightly tongue in cheek of course

Murray is emerging as a smart defender, laid the match-winning tackle on Gawn, cleverly handballed in the back pocket.
Pickett dived and staged for the free, cost them the game, it turned off the umpire from paying the deliberate out of bounds.
