We need to think of a midfield/ruck solution. Collingwood are better than us in the contests and don’t often cough the ball up once they take possession.

Does anyone have a solution for the midfield other than CCJ for Nankervis?

I might have one solution - Dusty doing second-efforts in the midfield. He was fine when he had the ball and he played decently don’t get me wrong, but I thought his defensive efforts without the ball were a little subpar. He needs to crack it in a little more against Collingwood.

Dusty had 4 tackles. Probably close to a career high. His defensive stuff was good imo.

Just need to match the Pies at the contest and not let them waltz out and deliver it lace out to Floppy Cox and co. Our coaches know what they’re doing, think we’ll be fine.

I don't expect all of our players to be A graders, If that's the conclusion you draw from me criticising one player then you're not thinking rationally.
I'm all for having role players and I'm well aware that's an important facet of our system. My gripe is that Broad's role seems to be 'guarding space' rather than actually winning possession or effectively negating a player. If your bread and butter is filling a hole you're either a pornstar or you're a very limited footballer.
I'd prefer to see a rookie in there with a swag more talent gaining experience and getting a crack.
If thats his role guarding space then thats his role.Obviously he's doing the right things.Until someone else comes along and can do that job better then its Broads to keep(will eventually happen).

I think we may bring in a young gun this game and rightly so.
we need some speed in the midfield, it’s time to unleash a BEAST.

If you think Carlton got the rub of the green just watch the Collingwood game from last night. They were virtually untouchable. Same s**t, different year.
How do they fall in to opponents backs? Let Pendles scrag and hold the ball for eternity, FREE KICK Collingwood. This happens every year and 2020 looks no different.

Konrad Marshall writes about the Richmond mantra of position over possession in his second book. Players will quickly get dropped if they don't adhere to the game plan.

It worked last year, both soldo and nank are very physical players, you could see in the 2nd half of the return game that Grundy was cooked physically.

Nank looked way off the pace last week but both he and Graham will be better for the run given they havent had a hitout this preseason, so wouldnt surprise if they both keep their spots tbh.
No it didnt we played Soldo and Chol in the return game last yr. They broke even around the ground with Grundy but got smashed at the ruck contest.

the same backline that kept the best teams in finals to relatively low scores?
It is a little bit of a worry against sides with multiple aerial threats like West Coast and Collingwood. Of our finals opponents, v Brisbane McStay had dominant periods but is a C-grader, while Hipwood is 202cm going on 174 - plays small. Geelong had no Hawkins and GWS were shot.

The Pies and Eagles don't only have talls, their smalls are very good in the air, and our defensive smalls bar Vlastuin are not. (Short is terrible.)

It's something the coaches will be aware of, hence they're pretty keen for Balta to come on.

Dusty takes possession, opponent immediately slaps it out of his hand while touching him: holding the ball.
Pendles takes possession, is tackled, spun 720 degrees over the course of 11 seconds: play on.

CCJ has a hell of a lot of potential but Grundy man handled English tonight, I’d be worried he’d do the same to CCJ. Nank isn’t gonna be pushed around as easily.

We beat Grundy up physically late last year, but fair chance he was tiring. This year he’ll be fresh as a daisy, we got to make him work in every ruck contest.
Nank is poor in cbd , an inform Grundy would flog him

Can't believe people are seriously considering dropping Nank...

Outside of Maric's best season or two, Nank is the best ruck we've had for ages, probably since Ottens.

He is short of a gallop, just needs game time.

Don't forget how damn important he was to us especially through 2017 and 2018...

CCJ does need a run and personally I think it will eventually be at Soldo's expense, but give it a few more games (if they eventuate!)

Pressure points highest I’ve ever seen from him

Ordinary footballer who has been a 2 time Premiership player by playing his role. No fan fare no bullshit, gets the job done. You need blokes like this in your side. I think he does his job really well. He was super in the finals series last year, he closes space better then anyone in our backline. People judge Broad too hard but the blokes on the magnets Know his value and I see it as well
Does seem to find the odd quality photo opportunity as well.

Nank plays well against Grundy because like Grundy he can follow up at ground level. The combination of the two should neutralise Grundy more than Chol/Soldo.

Agree, and CCJ should also be a better tap ruck than Nank so should make Soldo less important. In theory.
