How to you even propose to get someone like that though? :(

Rendell would get to run the ship again and that would have to have some appeal. Collingwood is not going to offer him an equivalent job (pay might be similar). I would be selling the ability to be the boss in this situation adn pick up a team that should be not that far away.

In his interview on Footy Classified during Mifsudgate, he said he was burned out on recruitment. Hope he has found the love again.

Given he has been at Collingwood for a while in a recruiting role I would suggest he has:

Matthew Rendell - Senior National Recruiting Assistant

Yeah, I knew that. Whether he is refreshed by the lessened leadership responsibility (and being at a club that well and truly has its shit together) I am not sure.

Would Scott Clayton ever think of coming back to Brisbane he's just down the road at Gold Coast and is doing a great job
One might say he has one of the easiest list manager roles in the league when taking the concessions GC were given into account.

As a side note I went to the clubs site looking for the staffing structure/positions and there's nothing there. There is the board of directors info and the main coaching group and thats it. No list of any other positions and who holds them. You go through the other clubs sites (i tested the pies, carlton, dons, GC) and there is pretty much a full list of everyone in the club and their position. Just find it strange that there is nothing similar on our site and now I'm wondering why?

I've given up on this kind of situation becoming a reality acu. I think we're going to have to rely on having enough good luck to unearth a relatively unknown gem instead.

We can't afford an unknown quantity in this role. Let's say the Hawks pay Graham Wright 250k a year. This is where we need to headhunt and offer 400k. We also need to be making it clear to the AFL that our only way forward is through recruiting and development and we need a cash injection from the AFL to help us get out of this mess.

It is time to go to the AFL on our knees begging!

I don't find that strange. There is a heap of stuff that you won't find on the Lions website. (Unfortunately).

Did we not do that at the end of last year, and have it dangled over our heads with the threat of withdrawal if the board ructions continued?

He'd have a great reputation if he takes our list, that according to the Melbourne-centrics is miles off, and turns it into a premiership contender relatively soon. Huge amount of salary cap to play with too. Lots of freedom.

Listening intently to some of the chatter around, my gist is that to be truly effective you need a team of people. Hawthorn have a truckload and Brereton referred to Buckenara as the guy that was prepared to put his nuts on the line when it came to picking player A over B. Without adequate resourcing it doesn't matter who you have in charge unless you have adequate resources in the department to do the job properly. That can be said for the whole organisation.

One of the most overrated in the game imo. Even at the GC he only managed to hit the obvious prospects.

He does have a bit of an obsession with those that turn out to be marginal AFL talents. While the GC has done well, the Bulldogs weren't so well off after his stay.

The AFL don't really care about us, if we're doing well it's a bonus for them, otherwise they don't bother and are focusing on other issues. I can't see them helping us out here.

Without an AFL guarantee the club is insolvent - I can't see how the AFL will allow the accumulated losses to just keep on mounting up without some sort of realistic plan of turning things around.

It's one thing to cut costs but there's a point where you cut costs to such an extent that you start negatively effecting your revenues and guess what - we are there. Relying on pokies to save us is pure fantasy IMO. We have to develop a business model that allows us to be profitable from core activities with the additional revenue streams as a bonus. I'm not sure what the answer is - but that's not my job - but surely / hopefully someone somewhere is working on that.

In remember reading a survey conducted by some group of muppetts that post the threepeat, we were the biggest supported club in Australia - bigger than Collingwood - it falsely assumed that everone in Queensland supported us. History would say whoever spouted that crap and who ever believed it were idiots, unfortunately too many in high places within the AFL and our club did and look where we are now.

It's hard to garner financial support when there are still so many question marks over the board and out its executive , its composition and its strategic direction - until we get that right we will continue to go backwards - I have no doubt and considering where we are right now, that should scare the shit out of everyone.

Now we are begging because our on field stocks are shit, this is due to expansion, the AFL owes the teams who were down the bottom during this period. We deserve compensation!
