he is a new man! he played a very good game against richmond. has lost some weight, gained pace and his skill is very good for a big man. could be very good in the back line or at chb. :thumbsu:

Robbie has always displayed a fair turn of speed for a man of his size, that said, you combine his already solid foundation with 10 months of pool training "15km a week apparently whilst rehabilitating from his knee" and I think not only will you see him chase down unsuspecting opposing big men, but his stamina by rights should have been improved immensely, and consequently he should be able to make many more contests than he could previously. His stats from last week alone, suggest to me that he really will become a presence above and beyond what he has been in the past, 6 tackles and 8 possessions is a fair return in his first game back, and he showed some good poise in an encounter in the backline when he needed to deal with a ball below his knees. :thumbsu:

yes true, he didn't seem short of confidence either. taking his opponents on and using the ball exceptionally well for any player.

The first couple of times he got the ball last week, i didn't quite realize who it was. He seems to have lost about 10kg off his @rse and can really move. Always had good skills at ground level for a big man! All the best to him at CHB!:thumbsu:

Was beaten again at the taps and it's still his poorest part of ruckwork.

But he got around the ground okay, took a few grabs and (imo) importantly, really put his body into the fray with vigour.

So he got beat it's not a great deal so long as he's working to improve and for mine, tonight was another step in the right direction.

He's miles off being a top line player but maybe just maybe, he might yet become a solid journeyman ruck in time yet.

I don't think he'll be our number one ruckmen, I think he'll be a very handy back line player hopefully.

His ruck work needs improvement however if Everitt is playing Campbell can play in the back line and Taylor be the other ruck.

His skill is impressive and he's improved a lot. One thing, thank God we kept him on the list.

Got a hair cut too

He's finally fit it seems. Still a long way to go (only a 1 year deal from what I recall) but he's made progress.

Didn't like his ruck-work, but liked his improved marking and speed, and foot skills were fine. Think Taylor is a better option as a pure tap ruckman, but cambell works hard and can take some marks around the ground. I'd prefer Robbie to start in the backline and Taylor the first backup ruck to send Everitt forward on occasions.

Max looked good too.

Benny you have got me little interested, I remember a bloke called Chris Langford that had a similar background. If Campbell turns out to be half as good I'd be wrapt.:thumbsu:

very very harsh assesment imo.

i only saw heaps of positive from robbie on saturday night. and his ruckwork wasn't that bad imo. with our midfield of mitchell-crawford-hodge etc, he only needs to break even to provide heaps of value to us. very promising signs with his reading the play, marking and footskills.:D

I honestly think Robbie has improved, but tall good ruckman are still going to kill him, use him as a defender or to pinch hit by all means, but I still thought his ruckwork was one the main reasons we got killed early.

Thought Taylor, with his extra height, manages to get his hands on the ball much more often in his short stint than Robbie did.

Having said that, Robbie's pace, marking, and generall skills look better so I'm happy for him to be used in a defensive. role.

AC has really improved this club over the one and a bit years he;s been in charge. hopefully we can support his good work with a few more wins this year. aim for 8-10 and a finish around 10th place and we'd be happy. once the young guns mature we will be a force. the list is looking good now.

Give credit to Clarko and his cohorts about Robbie. Remember Spida was looking at going to Sydney, even though he knew he couldn't.

In considering that, our honchos know it is time to groom someone on a fast track and that is what happened today when Spida started the game sitting on the splinters.

In saying that, to his credit, Spida played his part when he was on the paddock and sang the club song with gusto back in the rooms.

Sadly though, I, as a ruckman of some 438 games, see glimpses of 'past-his-peak syndrome' in the great man, one of the characters of our game.

Does anyone think Campbell will be the 1st ruckmen this year or will the hawks go back to Everitt... I was a little shocked to see spider starting on the bench... is this the changing of the guard?

Are you sure about that? If you watched the game you would realise he completely outplayed Sandilands, and the commentators, and even some people in the papers mentioned him toweling up Sandilands and allowing Hodge and Mitch to get the ball quickly.

I'm pretty sure Grendel's comments were refering to a NAB cup match, not against Freo. This thread was started a while ago
