robbie gray: how high is he rated?

Great player but he is too inconsistent for me to think of him as elite or among the best. But I wouldn’t say no to him wanting to come to Geelong

Gee whiz a coach who has been heavily involved in two players careers across three clubs says one is nearly as good as the other is a complete joke because you've watched footy from the outer and the couch for forty years.

Peak big footy right there.
What, so I can’t have an opinion based on my own observations? Don’t be so defensive of your lad. Hinkley is obviously talking his lad up and is a bit smitten by more immediate familiarity. Gray is one of Port’s best and I still rate him highly but, c’mon, Jr is one the best we’ve seen. A better comparison might be Chapman. Everyone loves a player who can turn it on in an instant and win you a game. Chappy, like Gray, was that type but, unlike Gray, had a real midfield consistency for a few years at his peak. And Chappy was a bona-fide finals specialist. Ultimately, Gray is some way back in the pecking order.

Some people wouldn't be happy if they had six birthdays a year
Its a wide spread view Dangers disposal isn't his best attribute.

So if you wanna say 'effective' that's my view on it.

Could add Burgoyne to that too, for possessions and influence.

Gray, Martin, Burgoyne for example can destroy you with 10 touches.

I can understand people being irked at the GAJ comparison, he’s certainly never hit the level of sustained consistent elite footy of GAJ. But he is capable to similar stuff for sure.

Afl ratings had him 6th best on ground last night, arguably best on for the second half with Gawn.

Didn't get 30 touches so probably bullshit
Equal BOG for a half against a team who haven’t played finals for a decade and I’m supposed to give a s**t?

Where did Priddis finish in the Coaches Association’s vote?

There has be a few write ups of late to suggest that’s the higher award these days. (I don’t have an opinion on that either way)

Outside of BigFooty, nobody really gives a s**t about the Coaches Association award (which has taken over from the AFLPA MVP as the "smart fan's" award of choice in recent years). I doubt the coaches themselves even put that much thought or time into the votes.

he was a liability in the first half. 4 touches. jetta owned him. he kicked 2 goals (1 was a gift) but jetta still owned him
This guy said this about 4 times. Then must have turned the tv off after half time. Hope you red carded yourself and gave yourself an uppercut on the way out.

Yeah cant compare to Jnr in his total impact, he does play very similar but doesn't get as high numbers and also seems to struggle with acceleration/pace. He did 2/3 things in the melbourne game Friday night which directly led to goal's for us (like tap ons, handball clearance in traffic), the guy impacts play when he is near it, but to be at Jnr's level he would have needed to do that and get 30 touches a game over a 3-4 year period. 2 years ago he seemed to get that level but the groin problems last year restricted him to play forward so he struggled physically.

Still a gun for us, at times it seems like he is the only one that can genially break a game open. We need 2 of him to play forward and in the middle.

One of the most talented players in the league and great output too.

I think his reputation suffers a little due to his position; doesn't get as many goals as forwards, doesn't get as many touches as midfielders.

Arguably the best HFF in the league, but lacks a little recognition due to above IMO.

They sure are a busy group though....
