Gee, I didn't hear any Port supporters wanting him dropped.

If you take a look at the in's and out's thread after the first Carlton game you'll see. I was perplexed myself.

Just another one to add to the massive bullshit file opposition supporters have compiled.

Sigh, i come on this board to compliment a player and then i get this crap. Sometimes i wonder why i bother.

Take a look for yourself. I even have a post in that thread asking as to why you'd want him dropped!

Oh, and then to add to that, you said you wanted him dropped yourself?

Anyway, to reiterate. A massive fan of the kid and i really think he'll be a fantastic player for Port in future. Little gun you have yourselves there.

I've been very impressed with Gray every time I've seen him play for us. He definitely has a touch of brilliance about him.

Ouch!! :o
We stand corrected. :o :o

Theres no doubt in my mind that the boy has a great footy brain and talent to boot. What we have to ask ourselves (as has been mentioned in numerous other threads) is, have we got the appropriate coaching personnel to give him the guidance and leadersip to tap that talent and get the best from him. He has the ability to be a star for us in the future IMO.

He's one I've liked from day one, but his ongoing/recurring injuries are a little concerning.

Other than that, having him as our only forward inside 50 with 2 defenders on him might be just a little beyond his capabilities ;)

.... What do you all think of him?

Do you think he is up to being one of our major Goal kickers?

Yesterday i noticed he didn't seem very confident going forward a majority of the time, Always looking to give a handpass off instead of having a shot on goal.

What do you think?

He can be to us what ablett jnr was to geelong in the forward line.

He has the potential to become a midfield gun for us in the future too.

But for this season in the forward line, what I saw yesterday, I liked, very very much.

It looked to me in the Eagles game that he was carrying an injury given that he was restricted in his movement. Yesterday i thought he was great, he is such a clever small forward. Ideally (if he could shake off his injuries completely) he would become a midfielder for us, but personally i think that he is best suited across half forward (in a Brett Heady type of role).

Great hands, great ball sense, but a crap kick for goal more than 35m out. A real pity because he knows how to find the ball. One day when we get rid of Ebert being forced to play like a 195cm player when he is a 179cm player, and we have a big strong forward playing close to goals and we are prepared to kick to him in a 50/50 contest, Gray will come into his own as a crumbing goal sneak playing in the forward pocket.

He also has a history of being injury prone. That's why I have said he is like ex test fast bowler of the mid 1980s to early 1990s Bruce Reid. He was a fantastic player but was injury prone, so when he was injury free the selectors just picked him to play for Oz and didn't waste him getting fit in the shield games, because you never knew when he would break down. The same goes for Robbie. If he is fit, then play him.

Great player, loved his game, needs to get some penetration with his kicking. He is always looking to create something and that says he has playmaker all over him.

Once he starts backing himself inside the 50 to go for goals i do believe he is capable of tearing teams apart. Id like to see him become like a true goal hog like Kevin Bartlett used to be cos i think he gets himself in the right places to shoot on goal alot, but he doesnt back himself. I think its just lacking a bit of penetration in his kicks that holds him back in that department.

Has great hands too, marking and handballing.

He reminds me of a guy from north in the earlier 90's in adam saliba, he was too lazy but had all the skills.

How long has he had this groin complaint? During the pre-season i remember being told that his inability to kick 40+ metres was due to a groin problem. Has it been consistant for a while now..OP?

If he can clear that up and get his decision making up he could be an absolute gem.

Pretty sure he had it all last year. I think it must be some sort of mild OP.

One of our most naturally talented players. It is really a matter of the coaching staff finding the best fit for him, and that may vary from game to game. Like many of those players for whom time and space seem to behave differently than for you and me he is almost as important setting up scoring chances for others as he is scoring himself. Works very, very well with Tredders and J Westhoff.

Gun, one of the best young small forwards going around today. Like I said on Bay 13, he has all the tools to play like Porps from the Crows. He just needs a bit more confidence in his own ability and to iron out the silly inexperienced mistakes which he can sometimes make.

Leads the AFL in goal assists.

7th in the AFL this year for total goals contributed

Averaged 10 touches in his debut year, 13 in his 2nd year and now is currently averaging 16 disposals per game.

One of the best marks you'll see and has improved his second/third efforts significantly this season.

If he can get his fitness right, he'll kick 50 goals in a season and be one of the premier small forwards in the comp. The comparisons to Ablett are very close to reality. Will eventually play more midfield than up forward but until then, he will be a very important part of our forward structure.

Having Gray AND Motlop in our forward lines makes me very happy.

The both of them are so good to watch.

Love watching this guy play and so good to see him back. Fantastic footballer.

Thanks, but right now probably isn't the best time for a North supporter to be on our board. I suggest that you leave before somebody vents their frustration at our team getting utterly robbed by a 38-15 free kick count at you when you don't deserve it.
