I hear what you are saying, but feel that our constant thumping the ball forward quickly is part of our game plan as it is done repeatedly over and over, surely if it was not, these guys who kick in hope would cop a rocket? This is junior football at it's best

Re being part of the game plan, you could be right but I bloody well hope you're not. I keep telling myself it's just our mids playing dumb, must get rid of the ball quickly football but as I said the tactic, either intentionally or not is just so hit and miss and TBH absolutely ridiculous against teams who set up with an extra man in defense like the bombers did and Geelong do.

Can't wait for Cripps to get to a point where he can play some serious game time, is brilliant finding a target by hand in contested situations.

that's not outrucked, that's outcoached
Sunday reminded me of a very bleak day in 1993. :( when a 206cm monster's taps were to no avail, thanks to the assistant coaching marvel Neale Daniher.

Neale's nephew commanded 9 hitouts. Dusty Fletcher would be thankful the Carlton president was in the stands.

They played to his disadvantages, which weve known about for ages....until he fixes this, he really doesnt have a spot in the team.

Warnock has 17 teammates on the field to lend assistance, so his being exposed is less of a factor.

I witnessed little sense of brotherly collaboration between colleagues on the weekend. Flaws are magnified when players fail to do the team things such as the extraordinary amount of uncontested possessions we allowed Essendon.

I'm not saying Warnock is 'fixable' but replacing him with Wood isn't going to do much for our success - the whole side needs a dose of reality.

Replacing him with someone that can actually take a mark and kick, two fundamental components of being a football player has to be a step in the right direction, no? he was 3rd man to a marking contest vs 2 mid-sized players and didn't even go close to marking it..

given he can't even kick with no pressure (i.e. after a free kick), why take possession at ruck contests, when he's just going to squib a kick to the opposition?

A mark of a true ruckman cannot be measured simply by hitouts but HTA.. otherwise all it means is that he's just taller than the opposition and gets his hands on it first..

Sorry but Wood is a poor man's Cameron Cloke. Traded by Brisbane, dumped by Buckley.

Warnock isn't there for his around the ground play. He's there to ensure Carrazzo gets 5 centre clearances in his first game in 12 months. Stick Judd and Cripps at the centre bounces and you'll see Warnock in his full glory.

Mods - change thread title. It says "Universal Love" but has degenerated into "Abject Condemnation". :(

I think you're missing the point, we won the clearances due to good tap ruck work - but the opposition knew this would be the case, and set up to get the spread on us.

You're right in saying there were 17 others on the field to lend assistance....the problem is where we had 17 players who were working around the ground, Essendon had 18. Now thats not all the doing of Warnock, but his lack of ability around the ground meant we seemed like we were playing one man down after we got the clearance, and its one of the contributing reasons to how Essendon managed to get soo much uncontested ball.

Yes you're right. It's *one* of the reasons. Warnock has a low ceiling, and his bad is a lot worse than his good, sure.

Few seemed to complain about Warnock's game the previous week when he had 14 touches and beat Hampson in the ruckwork.

Have to go back to 2011 to find when he last touched the ball more than 14 times, that's why don't see many people complain when he gets that much of the ball. It just doesn't happen enough unfortunately.

Personally never seen the value in playing Warnock over Kruz as main ruck, and they just do not work in the same side. The bit less Krus offers in th ruck he more than makes up for around the ground with his bullocking and general competitiveness. Pity he's out now anyway.

Confused by the comparison to Cloke by the way. Cloke is and never will be an AFL ruckman in any way shape or form. He's undersized and it is an indictment on where we were at as a team that he ever went anywhere near the centre circle for us. Wood has genuine ruck size and would do a decent job for us if called upon at AFL level. Competed very well for us in preseason action as well, definitely showed some nice things.

Warnock, drafted in 2005, played his first game in 2007, had his best year in 2011. Strength Hit outs at ruck contests, Weakness- does not create concern for the opposition after the ruck contest, I'm not saying he doesn't try, but we don't kick to him, he is not a forward threat and doesn't take a grab. Of course the opposition will instruct their ruckman to run off him and create another target. After the ruck contest we are virtually down to 17 men and we paid alot of money for him?
I feel he has not been the same since he got ko'd in the Geelong game and kicked the losing point
I remember it like it was yesterday.

Recruiting a fringe ex-Collingwood player to boost our tall stocks was the comparison.

Wood's ruckwork was never enough to push Jolly out and he rarely offered enough around the ground to be selected in tandem (part-timers Brown and Dawes preferred). Wood couldn't keep a spot on the list ahead of has-beens such as Lynch and Hudson, specifically targeted to fill in for Jolly.

Wood will offer more than a raw U18 kid but I'm sceptical he fulfils the "drop Warnock" scenario. Serviceable at best.

As opposed to Cloke, who was dumped by Collingwood, dumped by Carlton, dumped by Port and now playing in a middle of the road local footy league. Wood at least went back to VFL level and dominated.
There's very little the two have in common outside of being former Pies players.

I heard plenty when Warnock kicked it straight to Vickery's chest.

After more thought I reckon Warnock should be delisted at seasons end if uncontracted!

And what is your plan for our ruck division then?

Would play Kruezer first ruck his best position don't think Kruezer is a forward. Keep Wood as a backup and rookie draft another big boy as a backup to play in the reserves.

I too would play Kruz as first ruck, but with his durability issues we would want more in reserve than a rookie and Wood i would like to think.

Absolutely love this bloke. Anyone who doubts his commitment to the Blues watch his reaction after his goal. Was fantastic yesterday, as Mark McClure said why hasn't he been playing all season. IMO the best ruckman we have. Can't wait for him to back it up against the best combo next week in Pyke/Mumford.

Bet you'd like to take all take man-love back about now ?? :D

Very simple, go and trade for one or get the recruiting network to unearth one from the state leagues.

You cannot hold on to an overpaid & dramatically underperforming player just because you're scared you may not find a suitable replacement. Besides, there would be 200 ruckman around the country who could give us as much as Warnock is right now.

While i disagree that there is anywhere near 200 ruckmen who could go close to Warnock's output, i do believe that trading for a ruckman is something that we could explore. Warnock is not a ruckman to just go and delist though as previously suggested.

......rookie draft another big boy as a backup to play in the reserves.

Cox - rookie
Sandilands - rookie
Brogan - rookie
Jamar - rookie
Jacobs - rookie
Jolly - rookie

vs

Vickery - first rounder
Hampson - somewhere in the first 20

........all for it.
