Delisted Robbie Young

Solid debut from Robbie snagging 2 goals, as well as 8 disposals @ 75%, 2 marks, 4 tackles and 2 goal assists.
Seems to like a goal celebration as well.

Would imagine that would be enough to get another match next week against Carlton.

Well done Robbie.

Robbie played the next two matches against Carlton and then Port in China.
Not much to say except very poor.

Against Carlton he only managed 5 disposals @ 60% and 1 mark. Pretty much no other stats.
They kept him in the team for the next match in China, but didn't do much better.
7 disposals @ 57%, 1 mark, 3 tackles.

Don't want to be harsh but he was pretty much invisible for those 2 matches.
His kicks inside 50 are always low and dangerous which is nice but don't hit the target.

The axe was then swung and 7 players went out of the team including Robbie.
Lonie will probably be coming back into the team in the next month or so so doubt we will see Robbie again at AFL level this year unless he destroys the VFL.

Honesty quite disappointed especially after his first match but I guess his disposals weren't much better even in that match, he just got a couple of goals which caused some excitement.

Only thing now is to hope that now he has had a taste of AFL footy that he works harder and harder to get back in the team and isn't too disillusioned. The problem is that because he is a 23 year old mature ager he will be expected to play decent footy much quicker then an 18 year old draftee.

Will play VFL this weekend so hopefully I get to post something in a bit of a happier note.

Robbie Young
10 disposals, seven tackles, two goals
“I thought his first half was pretty good. We liked his front-line support and his pressure was where we’d expect it from Robbie. We think he’s quite competent at ground level, we like what he can do and he showed that he can get in front of the contest – we just didn’t get it to ground enough to get him to use his strengths.”

Robbie Young
Nine disposals, two tackles, one goal
“Robbie got thrown in the middle for the last 10 minutes to work on his fitness and improve and get a good understanding of what it’s like in there. I thought Youngy’s pressure was there up forward too.”

Robbie Young
Seven disposals, five kicks, five tackles
“I thought Robbie weathered the heat well. In terms of tackles – which is what we judge him on – he had five, but I thought his ability to get up and back and get frontline and use his strengths was pleasing for us.”

Robbie found the transition to AFL footy a bit of a jump and struggled to get much of the ball . However there is no doubting his commitment and pace . Hopefully after a good preseason he can improve next year , he has the skill .

From the moment the Sherrin sailed through for his first goal, Saints fans knew Robbie Young was one to keep an eye on in the years to come.
Cut from the same cloth as Matty Parker, the SANFL-recruit defined his game through his manic pressure, tackling and hunt at ground-level.
Despite notching up just the three games, an increased tank and more time pinch-hitting through the midfield could see Young have a solid impact in 2020.

This time last year…

…Robbie Young was toiling away in the SANFL for North Adelaide and working as an Aboriginal support officer with Playford International College.
The mature-age recruit was overlooked at the national draft five times, but refused to throw in the towel as he fought to keep his dream alive.
Then…
…Young’s aggressive style of football and unrelenting hunt caught the eye of St Kilda’s recruiters, with the 24-year-old snatched up with pick No. 67.

After a string of consistent performances in the VFL, Young made a memorable two-goal debut against Collingwood in Round 9 before playing a further two games for the year.
Now…

…Young’s story and perseverance was acknowledged with the NAIDOC South Australian Male Sportsperson of the Year award.
Shoulder surgery has the No. 41 benched for the next few months, but his appetite for the contest won’t fade in the slightest.

After being picked up at selection No.67 in the NAB AFL Draft in 2018, Young received the standard two-year contract.

However, with the Saints being flush with small forwards after recruiting Dan Butler from Richmond to go alongside Dean Kent, Jack Lonie, Jade Gresham and Matthew Parker, the club saw Young as being surplus to requirements.

Young will be paid out for the 2020 portion of his contract and is recovering from a right shoulder reconstruction.
