Acting legend and icon.
It is nearly impossible to pick a favorite role, from Tom Hagen to Hub to Gus McCrae to Colonel Kilgore to Maj. Frank Burns to Ned Pepper... He's been in so many films and TV shows.
RIP
Surprised you beat Powerful Pies to this tbh

I loved THX-1138 Great cult movie

Damn, forgot that one. I saw it as a teen and it was weird as.
IIRC there's some trivia about the title being a license plate in American Graffiti. They both had Lucas? in common.

Legend.
yes his big budget movies weren't his favourites. He did them to pay the bills so he could do other stuff.

But he was a heavy in so many ways. Loved him in Open range. one of my favourite Westerns.
Loved that one cause it had my name in it. :grinv1:
Lonesome Dove, HoF movie and acting.

and they arent being replaced. When someone seems like they are coming up they do something stupid. Thought Shia LaBeouf might be something but ummm yeah

The one I’m not looking forward to reading about is Clint Eastwood. So many damn good movies and roles I’ve followed since Dirty Harry as a teenager. I then went back and watched all his Westerns and then have ended up a blubbering mess at so many movies he’s made these past 30 years

But yeh Duvall, Godfather and that scene in Apocalypse…scene stealer in that movie

Thankfully Clint's going to live forever, I just don't see any other way.

Duvall was a pretty integral part of the generation who swept into cinema from the late 1960s and totally remade it with their talent. Seeing him, Diane Keaton, David Lynch, Robert Redford etc over the past year is a reminder we're going to be seeing a lot of that over the next decade (in film and music too) and that's a pretty big bummer.

Frederick Wiseman also died this week at 96, a real revolutionary force in documentary film making. His first film was Titicut Follies in 1967, about an insane asylum, and his final film in 2023 was Menus-Plaisirs, les Troigros about a top end restaurant in France (although he also had seven acting roles, generally cameos, in a number of films over the past decade, including the criminally underrated baseball movie Eephus and the upcoming French Jodie Foster film A Private Life, which shows just how much appreciation was starting to grow for him in his final years). In total, they serve as a pretty great documentation of the world - even at 96, it felt like he had so much more he could do, let down by the reality of mortality.

But back to Duvall, and this was so funny.
