Yes please......Love listening to Mick on SEN with his intricate knowledge of the game these days. The perfect assistant to add to our coaching team.
Would love Mick. Brilliant football mind and a great bloke to boot. David Parkin once said that Mick has the greatest football mind he has ever come across in his time in football. Unfortunately it is not going to happen for a multitude of reasons...:'(

I’m all for mass sackings. The problem is I have little or no idea about the competencies of those we want sacked. Minor detail I know, and shouldn’t stop it happening. Using a small sample of games, as evidence of incompetence, shouldn’t stop us either. I think we need a poll, and to let BF decide. Love threads with polls, democracy at its finest.

He’ll help get the multi’s sorted.

Absolutely. And as the AFL have recently taught us, nothing any player has done since John Burke punched an umpire, short of PEDs, is more significant than a multi.

Brad Scott would be favoured by Lethlean.
That’s word around the camp fire.

Harvey looks an assistant head type. But you never knows.

Brett Ratten if he does really well, well....

I don't think we should have to suffer any more than we already have. I'd be prepared to go with your plan immediately, and the downside isn't apparent to me at all.

I appreciate your support and your willingness to suck it and see....i'd like to see your type making decisions around the club..

I appreciate your support, very much, but I'd probably be of better service to the club if I was making decisions at Carlton, or Richmond, or Essendon...

I can't see him making it as a senior coach, simply because he presents so poorly to the media. Very monotone and boring and struggles to get the message across.

I think the most important role of a senior coach now is messaging and communication. A coach is a manager of the other coaches and players. The actual tactical stuff is why you have assistants. Perhaps Harvey is a brilliant tactician, but his communication lacks. A senior coach needs to sell a message and drive the club. I don't see Harvey thriving in this role.

I can't comment on his communication to the players, but if it is anything like the way he talks to media, then I can't see players responding to him.

I also think you need fresh assistants every few years who has some experience in other clubs. You need fresh ideas and IP from other clubs. Harvey has been at the club a long time now and has had a pretty solid midfield group to work with.

I may be totally wrong, but there have been many coaching jobs present in his time, yet he has never really been in the conversation for a senior role. So something is holding him back.

St Kilda love and respect Robert Harvey too much to ask him to be to destroy his career and reputation by being their coach. What a kiss of death that would be.

On another note I do like the irony of the Age headline .... Saints downplay friendship between football chief and potential new coach

Reminds me of their denials of The incestous relationship between Butterss and Thomas that turned out to be toxic for the club.

That is well summed up.

If you’re a quiet type, you better hope you win a lot or your time won’t last, I’d think.

Besides what you mentioned, I’d add a coach must have authority. That is, look strong, be the obvious boss.
Be the final word. Look in charge. Set the agenda, the direction, make the final decisions.

Some have it, some never will (think Bolton, Rhode, Neeld, Gellie).

As much as I know Alan Richardson is a terrific stand up guy, he seemed to be more like a top assistant coach then THE boss.

Leigh Matthews ooozed authority.
Allan Jeans.
Kevin Sheedy especially before he went off the ranch a bit.
Norm Smith, the red fox.

And the greatest of them all, JJ McHale.
On those days he was Mr McHale.
And he WAS the boss.

Nobody would dare take a sideswipe at him, he was the boss.

We should change the word “Roast” on this about Harvey to discussion or something.

It’s very very very disrespectful to a senior assistant.

A coach who is winning can overcome a personaiity-free personality.... Adam Simpson is a case in point.

Agree. Done.

We have two of the most recognised professionals in preparedness in the modern era in Harvey and Buckley, reckon sometimes assistant coaches get a raw deal they can only do so much but in the end the players have to implement it in a tough environment. Harvey has hung onto his job for a long time so I reckon internally he is highly rated and externally would be on the radar for a senior gig having an exemplary playing career and long coaching apprenticeship. If I was St Kilda I would be seeking him out. You don't get respected much more than Robert Harvey does at Moorabbin.

He's a very nice bloke, but too meek and mild to be a senior coach, or at least a successful one. There's zero mongrel there and some is needed to be at the top, he's simply an obedient worker who people get along with. An ideal assistant or development coach.

Alastair Clarkson is a very nice bloke too.
