Hes one of those players you just cant hate. Never any cheap shots or dirty acts and always stands up for his club and his team mates. For doggies fans, was this year planned to be his last? Not trolling just curious because if indeed it was then its a very cruel way to go out

Sums up being a dogs fan, in 90 seconds we go from being in front of the best side in the league to losing and our skipper doing his ACL.

Absolutely sucks but IMO it could actually be a blessing. Good sides like the dogs become unpredictable to the opposition now and i reckon have the depth these days to cover injuries. Some how the hawks covered significant injuries the last few years and Beveridge was apart of that system a few yrs ago. Might not seem like it now but this could actually be a positive in a way (tears for murph still)

I know some of you guys are suggesting lars but he's 33 and should be focussing on stuff past footy very soon. There's more to life than footy and a normal reconstruction will be better off for him and his family in the long run. Shit way to go if that is it, absolute champ. We'll see how he goes though. If it is game over, then an astonishing 295 games. #wellplayedbob
Tearing up just writing this

I know what you're saying but i don't think you get it. This isn't just footy, it's his life, it's what he excels at, it has made it him. A lot of players would literally give everything for their team and although Bob is a rational thinking guy i bet he does not give two hoots about the next stage of life
right now. He wants to make himself an immortal of the Dogs.
He has dedicated himself to this team and won't care much for the consequences.

I'm shattered for Bob atm, there isn't many opposition players I take a liking to outside of footy without knowing them but Bob seems like a genuine great bloke. I wish him all the best in his recovery.

Potential synovial issues, plus he would neef revision surgery post op and trust me the rehab sucks immensely...

The rehab will suck regardless, though, right? If he gets the traditional now and retires, he still has to rehab that for a year. Why not get the LARS now, hope it sticks, replace it once retired, when he can take time off, and trust that medical science will have solved all health problems by the time he's 50 and the arthritis starts coming in?

Can't see him going with LARS.

I hope that he thinks he can get back in 2017 and get a couple more years. The Bulldogs looking like they will be genuine contenders for the next few years will hopefully give him the motivation to do that.

If not, there is no other player that I look more forward to seeing in the media than Bob.

I posted this on the WB board...sorry for posting here as well. Guess I'm just sad and need an outlet

----------

There's worse going on in the world with babys in creeks and fanatics chopping off folks heads and bombing trains full of folks going to work and such. These a really sad and bad things.

Which is all the more reason to escape and buy in to something happy and entertaining when there is the chance...something like a battling footy club's resurgence, led by a bloke like Bob - who plays the game like a happy 9 year old commentating to him self.

It's sad that he's hurt, because folks won't get to see him shimmy and scoot. It's sad that he's hurt because he's led his team on a fairytale rise. And it's sad because it makes a happy thing like footy sad and we are left with the real world which is a campaigner of a place.

Not sure why people are so down on LARS as an option. Malceski, who plays a pretty similar role to Bob, has been running around on an artificial ligament since 2008 and I believe he's had the same one since 2011 which you'd think would be more than sufficient for Murphy to see out his career and also give him an outside chance of returning this year.

I'm as passionate a Hawks supporter as they come (sometimes go a tad to far..lol)
But when Bob went down in that last scenario I was more worried for his welfare than Sicily having the shot to put us in front!
If all goes ok this season & we salute for the 4 in a row(fingers crossed).
I'd love nothing more than Bob coming back & leading the Dogies to their first flag since 1954.
That would be an awesome fairy tale.
Good luck on your recovery Bob Murphy & I'm sure your boys will do you proud for the rest of the season.

Dont get too see much of Bob over here but everyone over in Vic seems to say he is a good bloke.
Hopefully he can do some Lars and get back before the end of the year.
I had no idea he was 34 years old this year.

I assume most people caught Leigh Matthews interview with him before the game yesterday. Murphy has always impressed me when he talked and that interview was no exception - honest, humble, measured, articulate and rightfully optimistic about the Bulldogs chances of claiming that elusive premiership this season.

Matthews also noted that at 34, he was probably in the best form of his career. Murphy opined that it was because, for the last four seasons he's been treating them as his last. So sad to think that yesterday might actually be his last game. For his loyalty and leadership he more than deserves an opportunity to take his team through finals again.
